I can see very distant lightning out west. It won't reach here but at least it's happening somewhere- 2,726 replies

I'm not sure about the chances here now.. seems to be light precipitation which doesn't really fit the scenario. I'll sleep now but this far east it may be asking too much for a good storm.- 2,726 replies

The PPN is starting to show signs of intensifying as it moves northwards, but that could be due to topographical influence.- 2,726 replies

Yes there is a cap caused by a relatively high pressure area, this cap should start to lift by morning time around our region as low pressure moved eastwards, thus allowing some rapidly developing cells.- 2,726 replies

Ah ok, regarding the metoffice/BBC thing, that clarifies things somewhat, I thought the BBC and Met Offices contract ceased with immediate effect, but I wasnt 100% sure. Good to have that cleared up. As for the prospects, there's a lot of cloud around now, it's keeping the temperatures up though, still 27C here.. with a smell consistent with Mediterranean holidays (that sweet smell at night)- 2,726 replies

It's worth noting we have some quite significant AcCAS banding here, and in general skies are quite dark to the south and southwest. There is also an orange hue to the light to the southwest, suggesting the setting sun is reflecting off a substantial cloud structure on the horizon.- 2,726 replies

For he UK that's insane. Unfortunately at this time of the day thunderstorms will not be liberated from the energy. The CAPE and LI so have decreased by the time the precipitation occurs .. still enough for strong thunderstorms if course but if thunderstorms occurred in the highest energy area it would go mental.- 2,726 replies

North West England - Weather Chat - Spring 2016 Onwards

Amazing no one is discussing the potential storm action overnight into tomorrow. Is it so bad in NW England that everyone has given up? Once the cap breaks tonight with energy of circa 1500j/kg and lifted index of -7 it will pick off tomorrow morning for sure . Not even the Welsh hills can stop this one -

I looks like to will move west of here, but Wales still get some fun... in fact I think Flintshire is getting pasted as we speak. -

There's an amazing wall cloud formation to the south... I doubt it'll reach here but it does have a tornadic look to it. -

Decent chance of storms into the afternoon.. the warm humid weather hangs on. I think our region will do quite well today. -

Really muggy today, temperature is currently 20C with dewpoint of 19C.. feels quite uncomfortable really despite the temperature not being that high.. but would be perfect conditions for storms if they were conducive. -

Surprisingly the sun came out again not long after. As a result due to lots of sun and a light-ish breeze, it has reached 23.4C so far. It's not midday just yet so potentially 4-5 more hours of heating so potentially 2-3C more to add on -

Oops the sun has completely gone here now.. an overcast sky to the south. Looks like around 20 ish will be the maximum today but that's not bad -

Spoke too soon.. the sun has gone very hazy. The cloud in the south may be further north than expected.. maybe this will suppress temperatures across the south of the region.. we will see.
