  1. I went on the model output to be amused. Slot of panicking and dillusionment in there. I think it's almost a case of "it can't be right that there isn't yet a cold winter with lots of snow!". If course the period 1987 to 1994 and then 1996 to 2008 suggests that aside from some moderate cold spells, mild regimes can carry on for decades. Still..of course winters not over yet (given it only began yesterday) but whats the point in getting emotionally hung on every run anyway?
  2. This morning was fascinating ... it was dependent not only on the influence of the sea but also topography. Case in point.. at Ness Botanic Gardens right on the coast more or less it was 3 degrees on top of the rock rises frost yet in the dips it was below 0C at the surface with thick frost and frozen water. Photos show top of garden v in the dip The siginificance of including the plant in the first picture is just an indicator of the lack of frost in the area. This plant called Echium candicans (Pride of Madeira) will only take about -2C before it's blackened by frost
  3. There is a breeze but it's very light. shouldn't account for a 12 degree difference within 25 miles.. but that's how interesting local variations can be
  4. So bizarre.. and not all that far away in Wirral it's +6!
  5. I had the same issue last night.. stayed above 0C here.. a very shallow inversion.. living on a hill is the issue I suspect
  6. Been above 0C all night here. Dropped to 1.1C at 5am but currently it's 1.8C and rising gradually. Still some frost though
  7. Up on the hill it's up and down (the temperature).. keeps on dropping and rising between 1.5C and 2.1C.. currently it's 1.9C.
  8. Not that unbelievable, for this is the Wirral.
  9. +1.8C currently, with a slight frost developing on the grass.. it's gone clear again but it doesn't feel that cold as the air is very dry. There is also a breeze.
  10. Currently 2.0 and staying fairly steady due to an increasing breeze and patchy cloud
  11. Not particularly frosty in Heswall.. ground only slightly frozen.. a minimum of -0.5 but now -0.2 and rising.Well it's the first airfrost of the season anyway
  12. not really demonstrating the rapid falls expected, although it does tend to by near morning it falls faster. It's currently 2.5C and going nowhere fast thanks to an incessant breeze.
  13. Id say Crosby will get a fairly hard frost tonight Chris. Currently 3.5C here
  14. If you'd have said airfrost all around I would have muttered a few indecent words... hint: if you like radiation frost don't move to a hill top with 4 cold draining sides
  15. its frosty but not that cold! 2.4C currently with a light northeasterly breeze.
  16. Ground frost today quite a white affair and the coldest night of the season so far with a minimum 0.9C
  17. But concerned about further south... extremely heavy slow moving rain moving over river valley's.. it's going to lead to flooding or worse perhaps something akin to a 2004 Boscastle type event in the ravines and valleys in Devon and South Wales
  18. Diy anything usially fails sooner or later Last one for tonight... temperature is fairly stable now.. +1.1C very slight air movement and frosty
  19. 1.3C now here.. frosty and glistening, but water is not frozen as yet.
