  1. My son was at Brinsbury today, he reckons you have plenty up there already. Please let me have the snow instead.

Seriously though he has to check Chi college website in the morning to see if they are open up there tomorrow so i reckon a good chance of a lot for you just up the road from there.

It is so close to Bognor now, can't be long for you...

  2. Got snizzle now. Flurries floating in the wind

    Jan

Hi Jan, we have had tiny flakes in the wind since I left work in croydon at 6pm - nothing on the radar - and not actually settling of course - too light, but it's keeping me on floodlight watch. Has it just started there or do you think it has been going for a while?

  3. Poor old Yamkin, even when he's not here he still gets the mick taken! I'll stick up for the lad though as I live a couple of miles away from him. He's never reported any snow that hasn't actually been falling but I do think he exaggerates the levels of snow falling a little. Often I'd find myself looking out at moderate snow but he'd regard it as heavy etc Maybe it was heavier in Shirley...who knows. He did also point out, eventually, that over the weekend when it did pretty much snow all the time (albeit VERY light) that it wasn't actually settling and the thaw was well in place. Had all that snow settled, then I don't think we'd have gained any more then an inch or 2 at BEST, it was that light.

Anyway, I'm stuck in west london again tonight, so not the best place for any settling snow. I'll be interested to see what develops elsewhere and will definitely look forward to Yamkins input!

Yes it is funny, but i will say that I don't live that far away either and he is higher up and its nearly always snowing here when he reports it and if it isn't it soon starts. It is just because he reports it in red bold caps

Actually, it is snowing very lightly here in lowercase black normal :D

  4. There doesn't seem to be much beyond these showers at the moment on Rain Today but in so many of these circumstances I've put the computer down for an hour or two only to find further pepping up - so who knows - more might build up to the East yet! Temp is also down to 0.4C here and looks to be falling a bit further. Would love to have a dew point "meter" if such a thing exists - right - off to Google for one!

This one is good if you have your relative humidity reading: http://www.dpcalc.org/

Thank you Mikel Nimbus for this. So overall 850 uppers of around -8C or less, plus 528 dam or less, plus dew point <0C, plus surface air temp of as close to 0C as possible (up to 2C?) is overall a higher probability for snow

Except when it isn't! Watch out for the warm sectors...

  6. I have just got back from an afternnoon sleging in Oxted where you wouldn't believe there was any kind of thaw going on. It snowed constantly, sometimes very heavily and I have the bruises to show what a fab afternoon it was. The drive back through Farleigh at around 5pm was great, snow covering the roads again and it wasn't until we drove back into Croydon that I could see the effects of the afternoons thaw. Very happy, at least I made the most of it out there rather than being sad looking out of the window here all day.

So when is the next lot due?
