  1. So a milder winter in the face of crippling heating bills is disgusting? Are you actually for real! It's one thing to have preferences and to love studying about the weather and trying to unpick all its complexities but some perspective has to be applied, even in a model forum.
  2. And what wonderful news that is. The CET above average is an absolute blessing to the many thousands who are struggling with their energy bills. Let's hope the rest of winter carries on in the same manner.
  3. Historically, it's always been a joking point about rain on bank Holidays and there have obviously been plenty of dire ones in the past so the point is perfectly valid.
  4. So what you're saying is that no 10 day chart has ever verified (0%) and that we shouldn't be looking at the models full stop as a guide to what might happen in the near future and commenting about it on a model discussion forum on a weather website. Brilliant logic, thanks for that.
  5. It's a shame that it goes so quiet- such knowledgeable people on here only seem interested in potential severe cold/extremes of weather. Seems a waste of expertise tbh
  6. Hmm which way will it go, all very interesting. One thing is for sure, the "i told you so" the "never really on board with it" and model bashing posters will be counting down the days.
  7. Storm Arwen produced an unexpected decent covering for my neck of the woods so there could be some surprises.
  8. Indeed a spell of not too disruptive snow would be my first choice but this current spell of weather is a definite contender for next best thing.
  9. Baffling to me the amount of people calling this persistent high pressure boring and some even going as far as wishing for a raging Atlantic instead. Guess I'm just a weirdo for liking frosty mornings, beautiful blue skies and crisp winter sunshine. Oh well I'm sure the UK will be back to it's default zonal setting before long and you can raise a toast to those dartboard lows lol.
  10. It's all relative. I was merely replying to the guy from Sheffield who posted that there had been zero cold in our region so far this winter and that simply hasn't been the case. Forget what might/could or has been in years gone by, this winter compared to many feels quite seasonal. There have been many winters round here where I've not even had to de-ice the car so from that point of view this winter is doing alright imo. Cheers
  11. Oh yes absolutely but the guy I quoted is from my neck of the woods or so his tag says lol. Is your universe ever that different on the south coast in winter tho, I have family in Bournemouth and they rarely get much severe winter weather.
  12. I must live in a parallel universe because so far this winter we've had snow falling and a good covering 3 times plus several hard frosts, beautiful crisp winter sunshine and some chilly wrap up warm days. Nothing remotely extreme but that's a rarity in this country anyway.
  13. With respect there are many things in life that make us feel angry and frustrated but weather shouldn't be one of them. At least boring weather means there is no threat of flooding, wind damage, power cuts and burst water pipes etc - surely they're the sort of things that make people angry and frustrated.
  14. Absolutely. Currently -1 where I am with no wind, gorgeous blue sky and the ground is white with hard frost. What's not to love, beautiful winter winter.
  15. You know when people see a good chance of cold developing and tell their friends/family and that in turn jinxes it? Well we all need to scream from the rooftops that it's nailed on for NO serious cold in the next few weeks, see if it works in reverse.
  16. It's such a shame that the failed chrimbo cold seems to has been a bitter pill to swallow for you. Your once enthusiastic and glass half full posts have been watered down just lately. Bring back the old Kasim, we miss you!
  17. Agreed. That's why I always question people when they say winter is now over because the sun is gaining strength - it matters not under the right conditions.
  18. Think people need to lower their expectations of a uk winter these days. Compared to the crud we often have to endure, well I think it's pretty seasonal out there. A long long way from a big freeze but certainly not mild like the local bbc forcaster was ramping about at lunchtime. Definitely hat and gloves weather and quite acceptable imo. And yes before anyone says anything, I grew up in the late 70s/early 80s so I'm well aware of what severe cold snaps can look like. Regards
  19. Look I know it's very far from a big freeze out there but it's pretty nippy waiting for kids to finish school, wish I'd put hat and gloves on. So what on earth was Paul Hudson going on about at lunchtime about how mild it is, didn't even say relatively mild. He and Darren Bett must be best buddies
  20. Yes my neighbour just said it took him 3 hours to crawl from matlock but as soon as he hit sheffield, nothing.
