  1. That will be Cross Fell (893m) highest point of the Pennines in Cumbria. Often extreme weather up there, and wind speeds and temperature are recorded at the radar station on its neighbour Great Dun Fell (848m)
  2. Yes, we in the East, had our ‘share’ in December! Yesterday was mainly rain, and Wednesday evening’s snow had gone by lunchtime. Awoken today to a thin layer on the grass, and roofs. Just slightly too warm, hovering round/just above 1°
  3. Still 1.5° down here typical, we get the coldest frosts, but rain today! The snow which settled yesterday evening melted this morning.
  4. Hi. It looked like it slightly went ‘out’ towards the end, and that could have altered speed and direction? Agree, it looked like no meteorite and yes, those lanterns (if it was one) are dangerous to animals and property
  5. I agree, my first thought would be one of those (should be illegal) tealight balloons/lanterns. Might travel fast in the wind, though there was no wind at ground level last night, the temperature difference between the burning candle and the air temperature could propel it faster? Certainly the candles would burn longer, and in cold would ‘lift higher’ Yes, I seem to be in our ‘local frost pocket ). -7.1° last night, so not as cold as I feared it would get down to. Currently -4.2°
  6. Yes, awoken to a very light covering, enough to make the grass and roofs white. Got down to -3.4 last night. All the clouds skirted out to sea, just the occasional one made it slightly over land.
  7. Currently cloud is skirting the coast, away from land rain UK - rain Ireland - rain Scotland - rain Wales - 5 minute rainradar UK and Ireland, where will it rain today and rain now? METEORADAR.CO.UK Realtime rain UK, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Our rainradar images are updated every 5 minutes and include lighting and a 3 hour rain forecast. Predict flooding areas and watch the...
  8. And I may be ‘across the hill, and to the east’ from Wold Topper! May be quite localised some of these showers. Currently 1° at home, with a dew point of -0.9
  9. Maybe selfish, as we had snow in December, but in March I’d far prefer this ‘cold spell” to disappear and to receive Spring sunshine instead. Gas usage has noticeably re-increased. Our trio of wild mallards are now arriving at the patio daily at c.4pm to be fed (I use floating duck food) Last 30 days of max/min temperatures
  10. Very warm outside, been gradually rising all night from 9° and currently 13°. Currently showing gusting at 40mph but will be higher than that, as our vane isn’t high enough yet (moved here just before covid, and not yet got round to have an aerial man to move it higher!) MetOffice Brid were showing about 10mph faster than ours a couple of hours ago.
  11. Fog / mist all morning. All forecasts wrong, took far too long to (sort of) clear, so temp here didn’t get above 6.4°. Mist was coming/going all afternoon. Disappointing day.
  12. Agree, today has been c.6°, in fact it has been almost constant since 6pm yesterday. No rain here since January 29th. Tomorrow is due to be sunny after an overnight mist/fog… I hope we receive the sun.
