  1. I woke up around 1am and looked out the window to see a flash lighting up the clouds every second or so - very frequent, but couldn't see where it may have been focused. No thunder heard but there was a consistent strong breeze. I woke up again later and the sky was still flashing away! I wish I had the health to get put of bed to take a proper look, but I expect from the radar a lot of lightning was from storms initiated nearby and intensified as they drifted west. A great start to the new month, and probably even more so for a number of you!
  2. Storms approaching the appropriately-named Noisy le Grand area of Paris
  3. Daniel Finch It's charts like this that makes me happy to be in Kent!
  4. Kent usually does very well when storms come in from the SE. Maybe the worst of the rain will pass by to our west but hopefully a light show will emerge from the ripe conditions overhead!
  5. Eagle Eye Thank you, I must have missed the MU CAPE, looking ripe, hopefully!
  6. Some reasonably good LI and high dewpoints later tomorrow for SE (and indeed a few times over the coming days) but CAPE isn't amazing. Will there be enough energy and - more importantly- a trigger?
  7. BBC News - Watch: Moment tornado hits power lines in China Watch: Moment tornado hits power lines in China WWW.BBC.CO.UK A tornado that hit China's Guangdong province killed five people and left dozens injured.
  8. Eagle Eye wow! Shame I wasn't able to get outside to see it approaching (health reasons). Thanks for sharing. The 1st outbreak was a direct hit over here. Brief-ish but quite active.
  9. A few rumbles approaching here - 1st of the year! Edit around 2 or 3 bangs a minute - getting loud! Edit:Torrential downpour and a very close bang now!
  10. Rufus Butterfield She's a beauty! Thanks for sharing
  11. A day of being sunny one minute and a heavy shower the next! One of the showers had a slightly sleety touch to it, and another had some small hail.
  12. Worth watching today's Met Office Deep Dive for a good explanation of why it got so warm.
  13. 3.1 was my prediction... if only Jan were only 20 days long!
  14. Met office text forecast going for light snow flurries in southern counties later on tonight and first thing tomorrow.
  15. Another glorious day. The car thermometer saying -8 or -9 earlier! Not expecting snow tomorrow but I guess there is a risk of flurries north of the main band.
  16. My carer's car thermometer was showing -6C this morning. A lovely crisp sunny day. That snow on Wednesday looks tantalisingly close. Stick your tongue out at Eastbourne and perhaps you will catch a flake on it!
  17. Yeah, I was just going to say! Looking like an increasingly faint prospect across the models unfortunately. But snow or no snow, there's lots of crisp sunshine to enjoy!
  18. Driving in heavy snowfall on the A20 nr Ashford on this day 14 years ago.
  19. This is what I wrote on FB on this day 14 years ago: I thought half-a-foot of snow was impressive yesterday. Now we've got inches more, strong winds and drifting! Like the good ol' days of yore
  20. Yep, almost high enough to squeeze an inch off out waistlines lol! Still all to play for re cold... chins up all :)
