  1. If anything, those forecasted 850s are a touch higher than on 1 Oct 2011 which saw a max of 29.9C in Gravesend: i haven't checked any other parameters.
  2. Oh Kent, oh Kent Thy location for Gallic storms was heaven-sent But now, why such an honour dost thou delegate And tempest-shield thy garden peninsula so oft of late?
  3. There's a great video of lightning strikes in this hurricane on the link below. Hurricane Lee continues churn towards east coast of US and Canada WWW.BBC.CO.UK The massive storm is growing larger as it inches towards the coast ahead of expected Sunday landfall.

  5. There's a risk of an isolated thundery shower tonight in Kent, according to the Met Office. I know, it sounds pretty lame compared to the fireworks some experienced yesterday! #desperate
  6. It genuinely feels like the hottest day of the year here. Even by 10am it was getting unbearable in our sun trap of a garden!
  7. Not to my knowledge, though not sure about desktop site. However, the aforementioned app does notify you if a strike hits within n miles of your location, which can be set at whatever distance you wish, which I find most useful.
  8. I think strikes are picked up by a network of lightning detectors owned by volunteers, often in their back gardens, and fed to the site, much like Weather Underground does for other weather data. I guess that there aren't many such people feeding into this site away from the 'West', therefore limiting its global accuracy As for Weather & Radar, which is run by WetterOnline, I am not sure how they get their lightning data from (maybe satellites at a guess?) I personally keep both tabs open when storms are forecast, as each seems to detect a slightly different array of sferics. That and the "My Lightning Tracker & Alerts" app!

  11. Anyone know if the 20C 850hpa isotherm has ever reached our shores in a September?
  12. Just heard my first rumble of the day from those strikes to my west here in Kent, making it my 9th thunder day of the year so far. Stop press - just had 3 much louder ones. It's coming and it's frequent!
  13. Thanks man, my parents nearby guesstimated midnight too.
  14. Woke up to thunder and torrential rain, not sure what time for my notes recording thunder days due to ill health: was it before or after midnight here in mid Kent... or both?
