  1. Why no thunder? I see what appear to be powerful cumulonimbus over the southwest, and yet, no thunder from these. Why do (sometimes quite severe looking) cumulonimbus often fail to produce any lightning?
  2. Actually feel lucky being in South Devon for once. Seems it might just give us a dusting... maybe.
  3. Too early to speculate on the end of the cold spell yet I think. Let's just argue about how much snow and where
  4. I don't trust the GFS. It's too indecisive. One day it's saying Atlantic returns, the next, too cold for snow. That said, I'd take a (practically) snowless cold spell over a return to the endless mild Sothwesterly depressions . I'm still hoping that low may just flirt with the south though, that'd be perfect for us in the SW.
  5. The flooding on my bus to town at 8 was incredible. Amazed he even drove through it. City was flooded all over the place and wind got nasty, some debris, but nothing exceptional. I think this other side of the eye now will be the real winds. Certainly for me since my house is sheltered to southerlies but vulnerable to NW'erlies.
  6. Wind rapidly increasing in Plymouth now as rain to west intensifies and approaches. Reports of extreme winds in Cornwall... I'm thinking it's coming sooner than expected for us. This may be an early- morning event for the South West, rather than mid-morning as met office predicted.
  7. Well listening to reports it doesn't seem far off. Very bad in Cornwall now and should be reaching Devon too in a couple hours.
  8. Forecast or observations? If obs then this could be really serious for us in the SW.
  9. Any idea when the real strong winds will start hitting Devon? I've noticed they're getting up a little now the eye's passed. Just wondering if I should sleep till 8am, or if I should stay up (if it hits at 5-6)
  10. Lovely thunderstorm over Plymouth right now. Ears just popped.
  11. Eerily silent in the eye now. Especially since the barometer is so low it's practically headed for "very dry". Was really bad in Plymouth. The wind was bad but the rain, and flooding everywhere, never seen anything like it. Can't wait for the eye to pass, that's when the real fun starts here. Do I sleep, or stay up?
  12. Yep, track is basically certain now, given it not only exists now, but is just a few hours away from landfall. It would be a huge shock if it moved even 50 miles north at this point.
  13. Yeah this'll be an '87 event for the channel islands. For the rest of us down south, closer to a normal storm but still, not something we see every year if I'm correct. Not this early.
  14. Keeping an eye on that cold front tonight. The way things are looking it may even be more exciting than Ciaran.
