  1. Storm just missed us here in Plymouth but saw some interesting clouds this afternoon once they finally penetrated that inversion.
  2. The storm can be heard here in Plymouth, such is the intensity. So intense that I'm almost glad I'm NOT in it. Looks like it poses a risk to lives and property.
  3. That Worthing-Eastborne storm looks incredible. Wish I was there. Looks like nothing but heavy rain here in Devon.
  4. Why no thunder? I see what appear to be powerful cumulonimbus over the southwest, and yet, no thunder from these. Why do (sometimes quite severe looking) cumulonimbus often fail to produce any lightning?
  5. Actually feel lucky being in South Devon for once. Seems it might just give us a dusting... maybe.
  6. Too early to speculate on the end of the cold spell yet I think. Let's just argue about how much snow and where
  7. I don't trust the GFS. It's too indecisive. One day it's saying Atlantic returns, the next, too cold for snow. That said, I'd take a (practically) snowless cold spell over a return to the endless mild Sothwesterly depressions . I'm still hoping that low may just flirt with the south though, that'd be perfect for us in the SW.
  8. The flooding on my bus to town at 8 was incredible. Amazed he even drove through it. City was flooded all over the place and wind got nasty, some debris, but nothing exceptional. I think this other side of the eye now will be the real winds. Certainly for me since my house is sheltered to southerlies but vulnerable to NW'erlies.
  9. Wind rapidly increasing in Plymouth now as rain to west intensifies and approaches. Reports of extreme winds in Cornwall... I'm thinking it's coming sooner than expected for us. This may be an early- morning event for the South West, rather than mid-morning as met office predicted.
  10. Well listening to reports it doesn't seem far off. Very bad in Cornwall now and should be reaching Devon too in a couple hours.
  11. Forecast or observations? If obs then this could be really serious for us in the SW.
  12. Any idea when the real strong winds will start hitting Devon? I've noticed they're getting up a little now the eye's passed. Just wondering if I should sleep till 8am, or if I should stay up (if it hits at 5-6)
  13. Lovely thunderstorm over Plymouth right now. Ears just popped.
  14. Eerily silent in the eye now. Especially since the barometer is so low it's practically headed for "very dry". Was really bad in Plymouth. The wind was bad but the rain, and flooding everywhere, never seen anything like it. Can't wait for the eye to pass, that's when the real fun starts here. Do I sleep, or stay up?
  15. Yep, track is basically certain now, given it not only exists now, but is just a few hours away from landfall. It would be a huge shock if it moved even 50 miles north at this point.
  16. Yeah this'll be an '87 event for the channel islands. For the rest of us down south, closer to a normal storm but still, not something we see every year if I'm correct. Not this early.
  17. Keeping an eye on that cold front tonight. The way things are looking it may even be more exciting than Ciaran.
  18. The thing to watch is if this thing tracks just 100 miles North of current predictions, then we're looking at a truly exceptional storm with force 10-11 for the whole South/Bristol channel coast and perhaps even force 9 widely inland. Or, knowing our luck it may move 100 miles further south and just hit France and northern Spain.
  19. Yes, and the "mini tornado" and "lightening" came apparently just days after Britain was completely destroyed by Hurricane Lee (which was over 2000 miles away near Canada and still is).
  20. Seems you've all been absolutely spoilt further East. I'm still refusing to give up. Currently keeping my eye on some light mizzle near Cornwall, which isn't going to do anything, but still, I refuse to sleep. Maybe if I keep staring into the mizzle long enough, it'll magically do something.
  21. Noticed flashes out my window here. Checked Radar. I'm seeing the Dorset storm from 100 miles away Got my hopes up for a second.
  22. Probably clutching straws but, any chance those Brittany cells will reach us? It's been RUBBISH so far. I NEED A GOOD STORM.
  23. Radar shows it's a textbook multicell. Just hoping one of those cells comes near Plymouth. I'm very jealous of East Devon right now where the main cells are giving the lightshow I've been watching from 20 miles away.
