  1. The recent thread about 19th June 2005 has inspired me to create a thread about the summer of 2005 about peoples memories and stats about the summer. June 2005 overall a warm but very contrasting month with a cool not very summery first half but a very hot second half a high of 32.4C on the 19th June being the hottest June day since 1976 and I believe the hottest June since 1976 as well there was also a tropical night 19/20th. Despite the very not second half there was also some flash flooding that night and also during Glastonbury that famously turned it into a lake July again quite a contrasting with a cool and cloudy beginning and end but a hot spell from around the 9th to the 18th parts of Scotland has there hottest day in 15 years with highs of 30C on the 11th and 12th else were in the country I think I read somewhere that some places had 4 days in a row over 30C but someone would have to confirm this. Nevertheless this hot spell was overshadowed by the truly terrible last 10 days in Durham on the 28th there was a high of only 10.9C which made it feel more like March I also think London had its coolest July day in years on the 28th with highs of only 15C. Despite this terrible weather it did bring some very interesting weather with a tornado in Birmingham. August average temperatures overall but there was some cool nights with a low of +0.8 on the night of the 8/9th. it was slightly drier then average in the south and slightly wetter then average in the north sunshine hours were also a bit above average as well. There was a very hot finale day of the month with 32.1C at Northolt London on the 31st. Overall quite an unremarkable month. If you count September as summer it was also a very warm month being the fifth warmest on record there was a short spell right at the start of the month with a high of 29.7C at Northolt London on the 4th there was also a tropical night on the night of 3/4 with a minimum of 20.4C at Guernsey which I think has to be one of the latest dates for one. overall a very respectful summer with frequent hot spells in each month the only thing that really let it down was the bad periods that brought some of the worst summer periods since the 1980s but overall I think this summer was good and very forgotten but I see why it is forgotten because it was in-between two very interesting summers that get talked about a lot.
  2. This is just from as I’m quite young 2010: winter. easily on both sides the winter of 2009/2010 and December 2010 were by far the best winters of the century for cold lovers. 2011: spring. the warmest spring on record I believe march was dry April was the warmest on record and may pretty much continued the same way but to a lesser degree. 2012: winter. a really tricky one here because 2012 really was the devils year but I suppose you could say winter for the cold snap In February. 2013: summer. Hands down the best season July was a classic summer month and often forgotten compared to months like July 2006 and July 2018 which option it puts up a good fight again august was also pretty good with that hot first day and June despite a bad reputation was very dry I believe and had close to average sunshine it was just cool. 2014: summer. June and July were a great combination with only august letting it down the problem with 2014 was that it was such a warm year which can mean other seasons are bad. 2015: spring. Quite similar to 2012 in the way that there was almost nothing appealing to it with it being warm and cold at the wrong times but if I had to pick one I would say spring as I think April was okay 2016: autumn. Autumn 2016 was the season that was hot and cold at the right times. There was an amazing end to the summer in September then thinks got colder in October and November. 2017: spring. Another very dry warm and sunny spring with an especially hot end to may 2018: summer. Probably the best summer of the 21st century June and July were both classics and august was decent as well 2019: summer. Despite being very wet pleasant weather was not in short supply most of July was decent there was a hot week in august and a hot spell right at the end of June plus if you like extreme heat (which I do) this is the summer for you
  3. There are a lot of forums that say 2002 was a terrible summer for the uk and the summer just gets a lot of hate but is it deserving of it? June was the main stinker of the summer with it being dominated by low pressure and it being a very dull month despite this there was mini heatwaves throughout one at the start of the month and one mid month but still a disappointing month overall The opening of July was by far the worst part of the summer the first 12 days being extremely wet and very dull with some places having less than 15 hours of sunshine in the first 10 days. Despite this period being probably one of the worst summer periods since the 80s in my opinion July wasn’t a total disappointment after the 12th some places had no rain until the 30th and there was a heatwave at the end with 32.6C on the 29th. August began the same as July did with it being very wet but things settled down by the 12th and then it was very pleasant until the end of the month with some places having no rain for the rest of the month. It was also hot at times with 31C on the 17th I think the reason this summer is so hated is because it’s bad periods were pretty terrible and some of the worst since the horrific 1980s summers but it was not without its pleasant periods but this is just from reading people that lived through this summer what do you think of it.
  4. If you add the first half of July 2015 and the second half of July 2020 together do you get a cet of above 18 ??
  5. If I had to predict what this summer will be like I would say it would be a 2019 type of summer numerous heat spikes throughout the summer and also quite a bit of settled weather but also some extreme wet periods throughout which I wouldn’t complain about because in my opinion 2019 sounds decent.
  6. The 2010s decade were not the best decade for the month of august with there being quite a few stinkers but what was the best and worst august of the decade. 2010: it was a very cool month the coolest august since 1993 with a high temperature of only 26.7C it was however sunnier and drier then average in the north but I’ve heard that in the south the month was just awful so obviously it was a very different month depending on where you were. 2011: a very dull month I think the second dullest since 1912 only beaten by the famous 2008 it did have a warm start with 30 degrees being recorded it was also very wet and a tad cooler then average. 2012: a wet but actually quite warm month the warmest since 2004 but that isn’t saying much a mini heatwave in the middle brought a temperature 32.4 a very cold last night with a low of -2.4 at breamar it was also quite a dull month with only 86% of the average. 2013: a very first day 34.1 being recorded the hottest day since 2006 and the warmest august day since 2003 this helped the month be warmer then average and the warmest since 2004 it was also drier then average with an average of only 83% sunshine was practically bang on average but still the sunniest since 2007 which shows how bad Augusts were in the years before this. 2014: a wet and cool month with a high of only 27.2 surprisingly though sunshine was exactly average which meant that the month was very unsettled. 2015: a wet dull and cool month but surprisingly it still hit 30 degrees on the 22nd. 2016: with a cet of 17.0 the warmest since 2004 rainfall was quite close to average but sunshine had an average 110% also i believe but this is just from guessing it was one of the few times where the second half of the month was warmer then the first there was an especially hot day on the 22nd when 34.1 was recorded. 2017: unsettled but not extremely so temperatures and cet were only slightly below average and sunshine was actually close to average rainfall was more varied with some places seeing more average rainfall but places like Northern Ireland see 130%. 2018: the hot summer continued for the first week with 33.2 being recorded on the 7th but after this is turned more average this meant the month was only slightly warmer then average rainfall and sunshine this month were both very different depending were you were on average rainfall was below average and so was sunshine but there was some exceptional exceptions with some places seeing 150% of the rainfall and some places seeing 150% sunshine. 2019: a very changeable month with it being very wet but that didn’t cancel out the entire with it being slightly sunnier then average and also a pretty lengthy heatwave in the last 10 days which saw the hottest bank holiday monday on record with a high of 33.2 the following day was even hotter with a high of 33.4 the hottest temperature of the month. overall none of the Augusts of this decade were amazing but if I had to say the best sounds like 2016 and the worst sounds like 2011 and I think an underrated august is 2019 cos that hot spell sounds lovely.
  7. For some reason I have absolutely no memory of this month apart from my birthday on 27th may and I remember it being warm and sunny which lines up with the fact that the last few days of the month were a lot warmer. June was thankfully a lot better from memory I remember the opening days of the euros being just glorious with blue skies and it feeling pretty hot
  8. July 2020 was a lot less wet. From memory I remember a lot days where the sky was just cloud from end to end but I feel like not much rain came from it and don’t really remember much heavy rain. July 2023 felt a lot more wet but it felt a bit more sunnier there was that one hot day on the 7th and plenty of days with at least a bit of sunshine. so I would probably say 2023 was better.
  9. Has march been that wet ?? it hasn’t seemed it to me many dry days and even when it did rain it was light and only lasted about 2/3 hours max with only one day or so where it was consistent for the entire day so spring 2024 could still be drier then average but it could be different with locations
  10. Addicks Fan 1981 exactly and I think august 2007 delivered in that area being sunny and quite dry
  11. The summer of 2007 is famous for probably being the worst summer of the 21st century with the period from about the 15th June all the way to the third week of July being probably the worst summer period since the 80s with there being some truly extraordinary amounts of rainfall but what I’ve been thinking about is after the famous rainfall of the 20th July was the summer from then on that bad. To start with the last 10 days of July despite still being quite had a few sunny and dry periods at times especially at the very end this continued into august with the first 2 weeks of august actually being quite a decent spell with lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures the hottest day of the year being recorded during this time with 30.1 being recorded on the 5th. Now there was about a ten spell where it was quite cloudy and cool but there wasn’t actually much rain and nothing compared to June and July and this didn’t last long with the last week or so or august becoming sunny and dry once again. Obviously summer 2007 will never be called good but I think if you look at the period I just mentioned on it’s own it isn’t that bad maybe even good for people that lived through this period what do you remember/think about it
  12. Im calling it that 100 degrees F will be reached in September by the end of the decade
  13. cheeky_monkey 1911 get loads of hype and no one is alive who experienced it and we’re getting to a time now where not many people remember 1947.
  14. 1921 so rarely gets mentioned which is a shame because it truly was a classic to start with July was a very hot month even by today’s standards with a cet of 18.5. June was also very warm with 32 degrees on the 25th august was a little blip being quite unsettled but don’t all summers have a little period of bad weather. And if you count it 1921 also had a brilliant extended summer with may being warm and the early autumn being very warm with 30 being reached on the 9th September and an amazing 28.9 on the 5th and 6th October which was the October record for more then 60 years! in my opinion from reading this summer should make it into the top 15 summers the uk has ever experienced but is so rarely mentioned.
  15. CryoraptorA303 is this forum only for heatwaves or can we do cold waves as well ??
