Maybe one for the technical experts but, as you say the moisture falls, with the ground being so cold could cold evaporation cool the air?
-
I know where you are coming from but the air is so much colder now that it was last year, also dont think we were in the 528 last year.
Suppose the time of day on Sunday will also be a factor.
Anyone got a eta for Sunday?
Saturday is a bonus really.
-
Cheers Carinth,
Good summary there, thats what I like about this site, you learn every day.
So carols in Hale outside The Railway, a proper pub btw, on Sunday could be quite festive.
Is there anyway that the intensity could pep up when this tri-pole effect takes place?
-
Lovely day here, Hale. 1C.
Dusting still around.
Marginal for Sat but still ok for Sun.
6z not the best run though, lets see what the 12z and faxes are like.
Parents rung up, jammy beggars they have 6 inches in N Yorks, schools closed playing with nephew and neices, what a way to spend the day eh?
-
Snowing again in Hale again, the mcr airport forecasts could be interesting for Sunday
-
Very true, if we can stay the right side of the 528 dam then the track of tuesdays low could also deliver, great to get this before jan - march

yep 18z has the band on us in Manchester, my guess a couple of hours say 3 inches
-
great charts those, Rob Mc has just mentioned focus shifting to NW at the weekend
-
Fully clouded in now.
We may get something from this after lunch as you say Carinth.
Hopefully that will coincide with the colder air moving across.
Still good for Sunday.
I use this site, good for local radar, hope link is ok Mods.

Clear a sunny here in Hale, (the S Manchester one, not the Liverpool one)
1.5C, clear down the plain to town and a few clouds on the tops to the east and north.
Snowing on the tops as people who travelled on the M62 will testify.
Not expecting much from the Easterly but roll on Sunday.
-
I bet Mr Darcy won't be jumping into the lake this weekend?
Very good!
I was brought up nr the NY Moors so knew of loads of great slopes that didn't get too busy, NW is a little flatter around me, S Manchester, so aim to get out an about.
Seriously, as usual, GFS picks up the trend, ECM verifies it, Meto locks it in, GFS wobbles, then all three upgrade nearer the time. Something for everyone in the next few days.
Don't post as much on the model thread, but what a couple of weeks this has been, ups and downs but we're on the cusp finally.
Scandy High for Xmas, reload, I think so.
-
Hi C.
Lymme Park with the kids I think sunday afternoon, unless you know of anywhere else that wont be as busy?
Enjoy the skiing.
-
Hi Carinth,
been a while.
What a couple of weeks chart watching. Five long years!
Sun looks great for us

Must be a couple of inches out of that NW wind.
-
Steady snow here, settling in Hale South Manchester
Been good for last ten, possible mid sector has passed.
Precip will die away before much though,
Come on Utd!
-
Looks like theband is moving NE but is quite slow moving so I would expect it to land S Manchester around 6ish?
Any thoughts?
-
Band sat in a line from Stoke to Liverpool heading NE to us in Manchester at 14.50
Will it fall as snow or will it be rain/drizzle?
Fingers crossed.
Again not forecast, getting dark here in birchwood.
-
Morning NW NWers.
My route this morn.
Hale - Light grains at 7 - Steady snow now
Manchester City - Light snow
m62 (past Mr Data - Steady snow
Birchwood - Light snow.
Looks like we'll get a bit till lunch then it might turn to rain.
James M - Good post a GH would deliver for us, last two weeks of Feb could be very good.
-
Well it has improved since Monday night and finally seems to be firming up for a good few hours of snow.
Again as you say we'lll have to watch the mild sector if one transires.
Nowcasting again Thurs night on the radar sites.
Sounds like 79 was something to behold!
-
better runs for us, Manchester might be the nortern edge, Meto think so
-
Is the Northerly still taking place this weekend
http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/Rmgfs633.gif
From the model thread, changes agin, looking better for the south of our region
-
What a real shame last night was, had heavy rain what happened.
And whats happened to the snow risk later this week.
Was a shame, but from my perspective the main thrust was always going to go up the eastern side of the pennines at least we got something during the day which wasn't forecast as much.
As for the end of the week, I would say that the models go for cold with some precip around, again it will be down to the radar from Thursday night into saturday, we should hope for a NW element to the wind which might pep some showers for us although the low thats going to deliver looks like orientating again for the midlands with us missing out.
A bit fustrating I know but lets see.
As we have these local threads a view from an experienced guy like Carinthian would do for me, I haven't lived in the NW long enough to use history.
-
areas in south liverpool and hale upto widnes have light snow, started to peter out, though the clouds are full of it, and those snow bands are becoming far more organized than initially thought, am not convinced that snow is going to go nne, it seems to all be heading north then meeting up with the easterly airflow and moving westwards quite rapidly.
Spot on, I think the easterly component has slightly alterred the course in our favour, not long now.
Time to pack in at work once it starts.
-
why is that? to see what they are not getting! or getting you never now
Nowcasting = Ace!
Just to see what the members in the north midlands area are getting.
Agree about nowcasting, suppose the only way with UK snow
-
The Metox radar looking v good for us, a more westerly component than the forecast anticipated.
Must hit us full on this rate cannot see how it will not.
Still heavy showers on and off.
Quite exciting this, brilliant idea these threads.
Off to read the midlands one now!!

MornIng NW'rs, from the latest BBC forecast
Looks like the M6 is a rough guide for Saturdays rain/snow line.
Sunday looks good from about 12 onwards for a solid spell upto late evening for all areas, poss not much further south than Knutsford
