  1. At last!!!! Somthing to look forward to after an abysmal July and beginning of August. It may not last long but this High Pressure cell could easily become stuck over us.
  2. Looks from the radar like there's some strong development west of Cardiff and over eastern parts of Exmoor. Looks like a discrete band of heavy rain espectally over South Wales. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/
  3. Haven't been on here for ages, but the charts for 18Z after the recent heatwave are so, so dissapinting, aren't they? Temperatures barely threatening to climb above 20 C and a decidedly poor 10 C over parts of Scotland at times. By the way a rather unexpected and extremely isolated thunderstorm hit Bristol yesterday mid-afternoon.
  4. Wonder if that almost two foot of snow in Okehampton comes close to those blizzards of February 1978 that cut-off villages?
  5. Precisely! What people forget it that the Sun is as strong at this time of year as it would be in late-September. In April the Sun's strength will be as powerful as it would be during August. That should get us thinking about putting the sunscreen on!
  6. I am a little confused. Why say rain turning to snow probably to the north of the M4, then show a graphic clearly including areas of the West Country and Wiltshire south of the M4? I can see snow on that chart as far south as Tuanton.
  7. This ia prob not the best place to post this, but Henleaze/Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol got 2 inches snowfall Monday morning, 3.75-ish inches Thursday morning and *another* 4.25-ish inches Friday morning. A grand total of 10 inches in one week! I haven't seen that much falling here in a week since January 1982!
  8. Having watched the video, it seems to me the BBC are a bit over-zealous stating there could be blizzards in major towns and cities north of the M4.
  9. The BBC said the risk on snow Monday evening into Tuesday morning is north of the M4. Rather contradicted by the graphics which seemed to include alot of the West Country as well. The UK Snow Risk charts do not indicate much snow if at all. But that chart for Monday night - Wow!
  10. The fact that it's already snowing in parts of western Cornwall, indicates this forecast is already going wrong as far as position of this next event is concerned. Parts of that precip in western Cornwall is actually edging north-westwards. Looks like very heavy snow could be affecting parts of northwest Pembrokeshire at the moment. Problems with the Fishguard ferry perhaps? Certainly wasn't forecast this far west into Wales! FutureRadar, which I don't usually trust as far as movement is concerned, certainly has this band moving NNE.
  11. Loads of precipitation on the Met Office radar. Definitely heading this way at the moment. BBC National Weather Forecast on now. Will I be able to view tonight's BBC Points West live? Bristol extremely close to the snow - any slight variations and we could well recieve some of this.
  12. Think it's just started to snow again over Northwest Bristol.
  13. Indeed!!!! "Drifting Snow & Heavy Snow Thu 5 Feb There is a low risk of an exceptionally severe event affecting parts of Wales and central England. There is a low risk of exceptionally heavy snow giving accumulations of 10 to 20cm, with drifting possible in strengthening northeasterly winds. As yet there remains considerable uncertainty in the areas more likely to be affected but further updates will be issued as the situation becomes clearer. Issued at: 1148 Tue 3 Feb"
  14. Just starting to fall here now in Westbury-on-Trym. Bullseye green patch on rainfall radar looks headed for me.
  15. I *think* it's about to snow in Bristol, more than it's been doing in the early hours and this morning.
  16. I would be extremely surprised if this misses Hull! Direct hit to me!
  17. Something big's on it's way towards Kingston-upon-Hull. Moving straight in from North Sea!
  18. A new snow streamer (let's call it the Colchester Streamer?) has developed to the north of the London Streamer. This band seemed to be heading almost directly west along the wind, before radar broke down.
  19. ".... and then the snow moving into the North, Wales and the South West of England". Nice way to end the forecast on BBC News 24!
  20. I think you'll see some snow before midnight. The Netweather Extra 5-minute radar seems to indicate this.
  21. Oxford is just moments away from the front-edge of that snow.
  22. Wow, you could hear a whip-like crack a fraction of a second after the ligtning strike, followed by a huge bang two seconds later. Must have been almost directly overhead!
  23. Weather is now already News-worthy. Just looked on BBC News 24 now. Peter Gibb seemed to be upgrading the forecast from what he told the reporter.
