Just read this as rainfall falling as VIAGRA!!!!!
With a stiff breeze? Hmm
Going black here again but seemingly thats all for us on the radar at the moment
-
Number 3 starting now rumbling away I feel lucky even though they do only last about 10 mins!
-
Stuff out over Shropshire looks very heavy indeed. The first round is skirting just to my south...but this second lot looks a lot more promising.
Edit: In fact there are now some much louder rumbles!
It ain't that heavy really. most of the rainfall is falling as virga. This is our first big shower of the day.
-
Heavy rain here with the odd rumble or 2 now again
-
Got that Stealers Wheel song in my head... Storms to the left of me, Storms to the right, and here I am stuck in the middle with sweet FA... lol
Little cell rumbling away over my head, see blue sky all around it, no rain falling from it either lol.
-
-
So any chance sy8 will get anything?? ludlow that is?? and any1 tell me why clouds go black??? always wondered lol
Cell's all over the place at the moment though mostly sharp showers but its very early yet. Clouds to black because the bases are in shadow. the higher the cloud is the less sun gets through to the base of the cloud basically. Thats why Cb's are usually very black - they reach 1000s of feet into the atmosphere.
-
Lol heavy shower from a tiny Cu cloud here, blue sky all around! Never seen anything like this before!
-
Sferic's showing west of Bradford, quite early too!
-
Convection kicking off around here and the sun it out to boot. Got a good feeling about today
-
Did the fishermen invent some sort of widespread thermal heating in the North sea or something yesterday?! I have never seen a storm last that long out to sea, especially round here, they normally die as soon as they intercept the sea!
No idea but it certianly lasted nearly all day! I wish we had them like that inland!
-
Please tell me that ain't the same storm in the north sea chugging along from yesterday?! Blimey..
-
Is it me, or according to the lightning indicator on here, have I witnessed maybe the longest lasting storm ever out in the North Sea out from Middlesbrough/N Yorkshire coast. There has been sferics all day on that thing
I noticed that too! Seems to have been rumbling away to itself out there most the day!
-
Cells over mid wales are loosing there sferics...shame
-
Happy Birthday Aj
Lets hope we get something today as a gift

Thanks knocker.
The NHM has got back to me and suggests it looks like Jasper or glass cullet chunk - I really don't think its glass cullet since I have seen that before. Either way the guy said both are not usually found in Shropshire so would have transported here by man or nature. He said there isn't many minerals with such a deep red colour.
Man I love not knowing for sure! Adds to the intreague of the item! I still stand by Jasper or Carnelian!
-
I think you are right and seems to be the concensus but another quite confident suggestion is red Jasper.
Which site do you use mate? I'm intreagued as I have a genuine interest in minerals and such
-
Looks like knocker got it!
Yup Carnelian/Sard I'm going to stick it on my shelf I think with my other odd stuff I have found over the years! Alot being fossils from Wenlock Edge and Charmouth
-
I'm assuming it's not a red potato. The ones in our local Tescos take some boiling.
Lmao might take a while to peel. I imagine the chips would be abit hard to the old nashers!
-
I've posted it another site where plenty of mining experts and geologist lurk. Possibly
Chalcedony (Var: Carnelian)
Now that looks about right!
-
Could be some kind of waste-product from past iron/bronze smelting that may have gone on in the area, rejected piece of ore perhaps?
This is an Iron Ore piece
Could be I suppose, I know there used to be alot of iron works in the area around Colebrookdale and such.
-
I have emailed NHM too see what they think. I ain't too sure about Hematite really, there is no crystal formation or streaks?
-
If you have any screws or nails, try them.
It's certainly not a conglomerate though!
Just tried, no lucky just slips off it. No mark made!
-
Nope its hard with an almost obsidian shine too it. A penny won't scratch it either - it actually scratches the penny.
I think its too smooth to be Quartz too - No crystal formation under magnification.
