ok....absokutely drenched...got about 15 mins of video footage, need to recharge the camera again......in terms of lightning flashes, this blows MAY 9th last year out of the water 1-3 flashes per second from all parts of the sky...It's all high based though meaning it's mainly 'sheet' lightning thus I don't know how well it's going to come out on video...I'll upload all footage this evening
Yup I didnt get much Lightning shots either, there were flashes and the odd CG but most was CC. Thunder was amazing though!
-
Lighting getting frequent again now and booms are getting louder...round 2
-
And to think I'm out of town and missing this - how is it comparing to May 9th last year??
I'm actually sat in Leek, Staffs so what are my chances of seeing some of this?
Best storm ive seen in 10 years Neil, May 9th looks abit pants compared it it. at one point constant lightning and thunder continusly for around 10 mins. I have taken a vid so
-
Thunder is fading now as is the lightning waiting for number 2 to come in behind! Kitchen wreaked though
-
I can see how we missed out, but for it to turn so much and miss Telford was a bit harsh, had a real right turn in terms of the strike locations. South Shropshire had all the fun today!
Bridgnorth got it...still have it! I can finally leave the NSC and join the No Kitchen Club :o
-
Awesome constant thunder...bad news the force of the rain and sheer volume has made our kitchen celing collapse Pleasure paint theory at work
-
Ian, you're in a prime spot for this monster...good luck!
I got my storm!!! Its like the the appocolypse! Thouse beers did the trick
-
it thunders so what? I don't see what the fuss is about, not as if we are going to see an F5 Tornado tearing through the south east is it?
If you don't care your in the wrong thread dude
-
Heavy rain now, wierd the rain is quite warm too!
-
Ok, I've just plotted a few charts using the GFS/UKWW plotter and married these to the latest infra-red satellite imagery, and my take is that this line of interest is tapping into some moderate mixed-layer cape (a couple hundred j/kg) which is increasing as warm air advects northwards from France, and a little 4 layer bouyancy as well....Cloud tops though on the infra-red imagery are nothing special so it looks shallow convection currently, but mid-level lapse rates are steepening which might account for the increase in intensity of the ppn....I don't think it will be electrically active, but it's not out of the question
Nice, I was just looking on the infra radar and was a tad gutted it's only shallow convection.
Still look how its pepping up on the radar, I'm going to stand in it I think
-
Certainly has potential!
Yes Ive been watching that too, no sferics yet but if you watch the radar run, the line is certainly getting beefier!
-
Wish I had me own boat, and lived by the coast, would go out to that storm taking aim at the bristol channel (NW Radar)
-
LMAO sorry I couldn't help it!
-
In that case, I'll join you for a bit...hang on, I'll just pull up a chair, and grab a beer ........
A toast to El Brumo it is then mate
Looks like we might have some rain as that band hits us probably in around 60 - 90 mins on the NW Radar, just looks like steady rain though.
-
I think you might be a tad early...optimal time IMO for any possible elevated storms for our neck of the woods is in the early hours towards breakfast time
Aye I know, but I was going to watch the radar to see whats comming towards our neck of the woods
One of the very few benefits of having insomnia, you never feel that tired after an all nighter
-
Sod it I'm going to have an all nighter to see what comes off. I aint given up yet!
So with midnight approaching its becomming the optimal time when things were planned to kick off. Just have to make sure Thor knows it!
-
Looks like the all nighter for me might be off then
Damn it!
-
As ever, green = slight, orange = moderate, red = severe
Too far east :o
Well I hope it is anyway
-
El Gordo II aint El Fraudo yet
-
Seems to be getting more humid here, you know that feeling when theres no air just warm muck.
Looks like there some Ac Cas towards the Clee Hills too (Southish)
-
When do we *think* the storms for central UK will kick off? radar looks meh unless your in Ireland?
-
I don't think anyone was trying to take the pee out of you, i certainly wasn't. Merely trying to have a bit of laugh in the forum, and not at your expense. It was more laughing at me regarding whether or not to drive hundreds of miles or not, but i dont mind people having a laugh with me - its part of life.
Lets park this now and continue to enjoy the anticipation/confusion regarding thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. I am too old to be arguing over such things.
See above mate, I jumped the gun abit and for that I apologised
-
Kain no-one is taking the pee out of you! Yes you were referencing C5 forecasting storms in your area, but the joke was Supacell has been umming and ahhing over travelling down to the SW, and with Channel 5 forecasting thunderstorms in the west, that would sway Supacell to jump in his car and travel down. We're lightly knocking Channel 5, if anything
No wonder so many posts get deleted in here, it's like some are specifically looking to start an argument!
Definitely one to watch
To be honest mate thats not how it looked, but I suppose things don't always come across well on forums. So I applogise. I tend to explode when I feel Im having the urine took out of me
-
Come on Kain.. you're embarrassing yourself lol
Not really mate, just don't like the pee taking out of me in a flippent mannor thats all.
We all know Estofex, and such are much more capable of forecasting storms than TV forecasts. I was more posting along the line of them jinxing it for mentioned thunderstorms.
