  1. Hey guys

Today while working on the farm I help out I cam across this rock that came up on the spud harvester.

I have absolutely no idea what it is! To think I did geology at school too. it's very heavy, not magnetic (Yes I did wonder if it was a meteorite!!) and just really out of place compared to the rocks in the surrounding area (worfield)

Heres a picture of the underside too

Looked around on the net and didn't really find anything other than red sandstone - which it ain't that!

    Any clues?

  2. Hey guys

As you might remember I bought a EOS 1100d earlier in the year. Having had a play over the last few months I have finally had a crack at the whole reason I bought the camera for - astrophotography!

Now don't get me wrong, this aint no masterpiece or anything like that, but you have no idea how thrilled I am with it as its my first try!

Shot in Raw mode, 4.5fp, 30sec exposer focused at infinity.

Ok so first thing is the exposure is too long, stars are starting to trail. The bright star right centre is Vega.

    So any pointers?

  3. Still learning with the DSLR (Canon 1100d) So im kinda just trying things out while still being pretty clueless.

Anyway I took this little fella (House Martin), I swear if he could talk he would be saying 'What the hell you looking at?"

  4. The CB looks like it's in the early stages of being punched into the typical anvil formation. Well-developed cumulonimbus clouds are also characterized by a flat, anvil-like top (anvil dome), caused by straight line winds at the higher altitudes which shear off the top of the cloud, as well as by an inversion over the thunderstorm caused by rising temperatures at the equilibrium level near the tropopause. This anvil shape can precede the main cloud structure (vertical updraft towers) for many miles.

Have yourself a read of this very interesting and informative guide to UK thunderstorm set ups composed by our very own Nick F http://forum.netweat...erstorm-setups/

Im not so sure its an anvil mate, if you look carefully its behind the Cb?

  5. Iv'e always loved severe weather, as others have mentioned its an adrenaline rush. Take El Brumo on the 28th, I loved every minute of it! The storm we had sent chills down my spine but it was such a rush standing outside filming it and then getting pelted by point coin sized hail! Am I a nutter? Probably, but its no different jumping out of airplanes, or off bridges tied a giant piece of knicker elastic!

Do I feel bad when I see people hurt and injured? Of course I do! It won't stop me loving severe weather though.

Something I have always said to my family, if I get killed while out in a storm filming or whatever, remember I died doing what I love.

  6. I started a thread on this on Facebook and have had some great replies, even the radar put along side it, it appears 2 Strong Storms fired up near Le Havre and then joined together to make 1 Supercell, these then split to create an almost mirror image of each other side by side, this could be how both storms created Mesocyclones to allow this to happen. It has happened before as there is something on Google if you can find it " Bowtie Funnel"

Ahh sorry didn't see it on NW facebook unless it was your own FB as I don't have that.

Just looked at the bowtie funnels as you said too. Its pretty amazing stuff! would never have guessed it would have been even possible!

    cheers for that

  7. Paul Sherman (sorry and I Cumbria Marra I ) have just drawn my attention to another potential outbreak next week. GFS going with something meaty again and based on their good performance leading up to yesterday, this may be another one to keep an eye on as runs roll out:

I think I could manage another good setup :)

Would love something at night, been a good few years since the last nighttime storm :D
