  1. Overcast this morning.Temp 16.5C, slight breeze. Can still smell smoke in the air from the fire at Wareham which is at least 7 miles away from here.
  2. Really hoping you have a quick recovery. Sounds pretty scary the shortness of breath symptoms. Take care.
  3. I don't really understand the business world much, but could all the world financial markets be put on hold with no trading? Sorry for my ignorance.
  4. We are Neighbours fans here.I understand from the BBC live updates they are also suspending filming! For one week at the moment, someone tested positive for C-19 on set
  5. Is there any chart showing how many people are needing intensive care each day in the UK due to Covid19 ?
  6. This does not only affect the vulnerable though. It has a knock on effect to the whole society. Even if it is only the most vulnerable that are at risk from serious complications/death from the virus they will fill up the NHS capacity, and consequently there is not enough treatment for the usual patients, so they then become at risk and cannot get treatment. What about the A &E departments that already struggle and hospitals that do not have spare beds?
  7. This all feels so surreal at the moment. Looking out the window the sun is shining and all appears normal, but apart from the weather that’s where ‘normal’ life ends at the moment. Hubby has a cold. 99.9% sure that is all, but he has had to stay off work. He works at the local leisure centre/ gym. Time will tell whether the work place will close anyway? I wonder when life will return to normal! No doubt in a couple of years a film will be released. It will be the Americans that save the day. Specially 2 or 3 lead characters (good looking) that manage to fix everything!
  8. I guess one of the best places to be is on the International Space Station at the moment!
  9. That's a good tracker.Unfortunately the UK will probably drop off now surely, due to the fact that only cases in hospital will be tested for the virus?
  10. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Keep us updated on your condition please.
  11. I feel we are a little bit in limbo at the moment. With the government not testing the general public now, with only hospitalised patients tested I think we might have a period of time just waiting. It was only a few weeks ago everyone was worried that China were not doing their part, and not keeping the world informed with regards to how many had the virus there. Let's hope we at least have regular updates so we are not left in the dark
  12. Iceland were planning on testing the entire population whereas the UK is now testing only those with serious symptoms from what I understand
  13. I understand this to mean they will only test people with the severe symptoms that are in hospital now and not the people that self isolate for 7 days. If this is the case then the UK figures will not be true
  14. It's good that they are trying to protect the elderly but I'm not sure how effective the latest measures will be. I get the impression that many will carry on as normal going out shopping and to their activities. My elderly mother,89 years old is still quite active but has COPD and asthma. She seems to think it's 'just one of those things' that won't happen to her. No doubt she's not the only one!
  15. Everyone's still here then? I am finding this thread very informative ,thank you to all the contributors. Much more sensible than some of the posts on Facebook
  16. My husband works at a leisure centre.Got in this morning and all the loo rolls had been pinched! They only have enough hand sanitiser until tomorrow, hoping for a delivery by then!
  17. Iceland are going to screen the whole population for Covid19 .Population of approx 364,000 there. Will be interesting to know the results. From Iceland — COVID-19 In Iceland: 58 Confirmed Cases, 500 In Quarantine, General Screening To Begin GRAPEVINE.IS A specially-sanitised flight which retrieved another group of Icelanders from Verona, Italy returned to Iceland last Saturday. Of those within...
  18. So are we meant to assume the viral strain in Italy is the more serious one? And in Germany for example (because there are fewer deaths so far) it is the milder strain?. If so surely the test results would confirm it ?
  19. With regards to sore hands from frequent washing I find Neutrogena concentrated hand cream(Norwegian formula) very good. Also rub vaseline all over your hands at bedtime. Probably hand moisturiser will be the next item running out in the shops!
  20. I found this article on the BBC very enlightening. This lady explained all her symptoms and it sounds quite worrying that she had such trouble breathing.Just shows how dangerous it can be if you already have poor lung function Edited ,It seems Summer Sun and myself posted this at the same time! 'How I survived coronavirus and isolation' WWW.BBC.CO.UK 53-year-old Julie talks about what it's like to be diagnosed with coronavirus and survive the symptoms.
  21. Of course even if that was correct, it would mean double the amount of people at risk of death when it's added to the normal annual flu figures. Also double the pressure on the NHS
  22. Yes.I agree that age does not always indicate your state of health. It will be interesting to see how things progress.
  23. I also thought this 'battle plan' of asking retired Doctors and Nurses to be at odds with advice for the elderly ! I thought the virus was higher risk to the elderly. Maybe they are just thinking of using medical staff that have retired from the profession under the age of 60
  24. I have been following this thread for some time.I am still puzzled about the severity of the virus.Obviously it must be bad for all governments to react to it so swiftly. What happens to the cases that are straight away taken in to hospital? Are they already very poorly, or are they lying on a hospital bed just waiting to see what happens? Why are there not many first hand accounts from people that have the virus? I would have thought the internet would be full of their stories !
