  1. I found this article on the BBC very enlightening. This lady explained all her symptoms and it sounds quite worrying that she had such trouble breathing.Just shows how dangerous it can be if you already have poor lung function

Edited ,It seems Summer Sun  and myself posted this at the same time!

53-year-old Julie talks about what it's like to be diagnosed with coronavirus and survive the symptoms.

So within two minutes Matt Hancock was already peddling misinformation.

He said the Coronavirus fatality rate was similar to the flu .

Of course even if that was correct, it would mean double the amount of people at risk of death when it's added to the normal annual flu figures. Also double the pressure on the NHS

Yes, it did seem a bit "right hand doesn't know what the left is doing" but you're right, there are probably many doctors and nurses who have retired before 60 and anyway, 60 is just a number. Surely your state of health is much more important than your age. There are 60-70 year olds who are healthier than some 30-40 year olds.

Yes.I agree that age does not always indicate your state of health. It will be interesting to see how things progress.

The World Health Organisation has told people aged over 60 to avoid crowded areas and public transport

Drastic warning also urged people over 60 to skip routine appointments at doctors' surgeries and hospitals

    * This advice doesn't match the news that retired Doctors might well be asked to return to work.  ?
I know the medics would wear full protective clothing however.

I also thought this 'battle plan' of asking retired Doctors and Nurses to be at odds with  advice for the elderly ! I thought the virus was higher risk to the elderly.

Maybe they are just thinking of using medical staff that have retired from the profession under the age of 60

  5. I have been following this thread for some time.I am still puzzled about the severity of the virus.Obviously it must be bad for all governments to react to it so swiftly.

What happens to the cases that are straight away taken in to hospital? Are they already very poorly, or are they lying on a hospital bed just waiting to see what happens?

Why are there not many first hand accounts from people that have the virus? I would have thought the internet would be full of their stories !

Thanks everyone for a great forum and especially to the regulars for putting up with us lurkers.

I missed the worst (best!) of the blizzard here in Wembury, SW Devon, but I had a great first course of powder snow on Wednesday and a little dessert course of freezing rain last night.  Nothing to cause a problem, but enough to say I’ve seen freezing rain!

Here are a few pictures to give a view of the condition across our region.

Wembury, 85m ASL and 1 mile inland.

That last bird is probably not a thrush but a Fieldfare. We have had a few in our garden the last couple of days

Watching the streamer in the channel, from Bournemouth, it's a fine sight to behold first thing in the morning, convective trail as far as the eye can see.

Looking at that precipitation on the radar,it looks like it is coming to an end after being there constantly out at sea for the last couple of days.Would be nice if we caught something from it but probably not knowing our luck.

Moaning mini time. Being we are all friends hoping to get away with it. So this upcoming cold spell that might happen. If it does yes it will be cold but snow is a different issue those in the east of the region might get some snow showers but surely on an easterley fetch anywhere west of say Poole up to Warminster and Cheltenham will struggle to get anything. The only way I think (tell me I'm wrong) that something properly falling is an undercut or the Atlantic bumping in which is then fraught with danger.

Model or winter fatigue hitting home!

Well I live 3 miles north of Poole approx and believe it or not we have had spells of snow  over the years that I have lived here( all my life ).I haven't a clue what the set up is for them to happen I'm afraid.I think the best ones are when you don't expect it to happen. Then at least you don't get disappointed at the last moment.Probably best when you are a child and wake up to a covering of snow without even following any forecasts.
