Name: Larry Severity Category: 5 Situation At: 5:30AM EST Monday 20 March 2006 Warning Area: Cape Tribulation to Bowen, extending inland to near Normanton Watch Area: The southeast coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria - Burketown to Gilbert River Mouth Location: 17.5S 146.5E Recent Movement: W at 25 km/h Remarks: Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry poses a VERY SERIOUS THREAT to life and property in the warning area. The VERY DESTRUCTIVE CORE of SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE LARRY with extreme gusts up to 280 km/hr should cross the coast near INNISFAIL between 7am and 9am this morning. DESTRUCTIVE WINDS are already occurring along the exposed coast between INGHAM and PORT DOUGLAS. GALES are being experienced along the remainder of the exposed coast in the warning area. These winds will ease rapidly later this morning as the cyclone moves inland. Coastal residents between Cairns and Cardwell are specifically warned of the DANGEROUS storm tide as the cyclone crosses the coast. The sea is likely to steadily rise up to a level which will be significantly above the normal tide, with damaging waves, strong currents and flooding of low-lying areas extending some way inland. Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry will move further inland during the day. Although the cyclone will gradually weaken, the destructive core of Larry will move across the Atherton Tablelands this morning with gusts to 180 km/h. It will then move further inland into the Northern Goldfields this afternoon with gusts to 140 km/h. Marine users please note: Tropical cyclone information specific to the marine community is contained in Coastal Wind Warnings and Ocean Wind Warnings. Refer to those warnings for the areas of strong winds, gales and more intense winds associated with the cyclone. The next threat map will be issued by 7am AEST Monday 20th March.

  4. only had a few very light flakes of snow here not much but still summet i suppose

  15. latest As of Thursday morning, Tropical Cyclone 14S had formed east-southeast of Diego Gracia, centered near 10.8 degrees south and 80.9 degrees east, winds were sustained at 40 mph and movement was south-southwest at 7 mph. A southwesterly track and additional strengthening is expected over the next couple of days.

  19. currently having a snow shower here 5 mins after the gritters have been around
  20. temp has dropped from 9.4c to 8.1 within half n hour just started to have a light rain shower and currently very windy
  21. overcast foggy temp of -1.2 °C not gone above freezing so far all day so i guess its classed as an ice day here
