  1. You can all pelt me with stones. I think I am the reason we have had our third rubbish Summer here.

When we moved into our home in '94, everyone would comment that the garden was just crying out for a pool. We refrained. Then after a few good summers (particulary 2006) my hubby and I finally decided that we would bite the bullet and have a pool built. May and the first half of June 2007 were glorious, the average daily temp was 26 degrees and the sun was shining, UNTIL that is, we filled the pool with water. From that day, the rain started. One bonus is, that with being on a water meter, I have never had to top the pool up, nature has done that for me.

OK, I admit we've had a few fab weeks and the odd days here and there and the pool has been worth every penny on those days but come on .... this is the 2nd lot of the kids summer holidays where we've only had the pool cover off twice since the kids broke up.

Is this rain going to stop? We are off camping shortly for 2 weeks and I am really not sure if I can cope with 14 days of bone penetrating damp.

Like I said, think it's my fault. Never been lucky.

  2. Seems far too technical for me but apart from just getting used to the new layout, as an operator, my dear old horse is having no problems (now 6 yrs old). I'm trading this stupid thing in, in the New Year cause it's rubbish. I, very very occasionally have a problem watching videos but I believe that is a problem with which thingamybob I've got downloaded. I :winky: netweather.

  3. Oh blimey this sounds like such good fun. If only. Loads of silly reasons I can't come but would love to. Hope you all have a fab time and I am so very very jealous. I would love to meet so many of you, especially after having a few sherberts, it would be even funnier. If the hubby was in the vacinity I probably could have convinced him to 'get away for the weekend' as it's our 13th anniversary on Monday! However, he's off doing what he does best in 'o'silly o place' so I'm at home with the daughter who thinks she's 20 but is actually only 10! Paul - do it again next year, please, cause hubby does a rotation and he will be here this time next year and I could work on him..... (could you invite Gethin too?) Tee hee.

  4. You guys in the SE have had an excellent couple of weeks with storms, just keep posting pics and vids and I'll stay a non-moaner. However, I personally think Mr Sherman is being too greedy now and should learn to share more!!!!! Hope the BBQ goes well on Sunday would love to have come but hubby away so no one to look after the 10 yrs old.

I've seen a bit of convection today and some great cloud formations forming in the distance, a rather small but menacing looking bunch of greeny clouds passed over me about 1/2 hr ago but it didn't dump any hail which surprised me. Very still in the back garden but all clear skies now, everything seems to have disappeared.

  5. Thanks for sharing pics and experiences from last night and today. I've been enjoying the read. Not much happening here stormwise I'm afraid. Rained all morning but has cleared up now. Have to say though it's blowing a flippin hooley out there. Don't think I'll bother re-doing my hair to go to the pub tonight!!!!

  6. Wow by the look of the lightning detectors I really should get to see or hear something this evening, HOWEVER, I am not very good at reading charts and directions so if some kind person would be lovely enough to inform me what my chances are, I'd be a happy bunny. I think I may be too far SW and I'm never normally one to ask this question (usually go for pot luck) but those detectors look so lively I feel the urge to ask. So exciting.

  7. Seems to be quite an active day today - lots going on in many different parts. Nice to see. Thought I was going to be lucky earlier today, very dark heavy clouds and loads of nice high towers but amounted only to heavy rain. Never mind. Been pretty gusty here today, no rain since lunch time but still looking like it could chuck it down at any minute. Will be watching this evening and reading all your posts, done all my chores for the day so can chill.

  8. Beautiful - but if their caterpillars get on your fuscias BEWARE they will decimate them. I had some eat the entire fuscia down to the stalks the year before last but I let them get on with it as I knew what they were. After eating the plant completely, they wiggle off, bury themselves deep below ground and them emerge 2 years later .... perhaps that's one of my babies!!!!!

  9. Hope you all get what you are waiting for. I'd waited a very long time for a really decent storm here (which arrived last Thursday night, and it was apparently very decent from what I hear) and it ended up that I couldn't watch it due to my dogs 'new found' fear of storms.......argghhhh.

  10. It's absolutely chucking it down here in Poole. Been doing so since about midday. Weird I was expecting a heatwave. I hope it clears up and just this once .... and I mean just this once and once only..... I don't want a storm between now and Friday as my daughter goes off on a school camping trip tommorrow until Friday and they have those horrible tents that the guides and scouts use (i.e. canvas and no fitted ground sheets).

  11. Finally got a half decent storm here last night. Started in the distance with regular flashes and the odd rumble at about midnight. By 1am it was here. Funnily seemed to be coming from all directions, lots of bright flashes and a good amount of cracks and rumbles. It eased off at about 2.30am and by 3.30am it was gone. Good, long lasting storm for a change. I'm gutted though as I was unable to watch properly as my dear dog for some reason, decided that he wanted to bark his head off at every flash and every rumble (close or distant) - so I ended up in my daughters bedroom (which has black out curtains) with the door shut, sat on the floor trying to shut him up so that the rest of the house managed to get some sleep. Very odd, he normally sleeps through/ignores storms! Bah hum bug. Little sod.

  12. I am just wading through the 100 odd emails that I have got over night – I plan to respond to each and every one of them this morning – what a job!!

As I mentioned before this production exposes the cross over between family life and Storm chasing - something that we can all relate too with other psssions in life - ie golf etc.!

Interesting all the female email take Alison's side - while all the blokes take mine.

According to the Independent review - we are the new "Gavin and Stacy"

I missed it Stu but when I get a chance I will watch the catch up. Just want to say it doesn't always work female:female and male:male. I'm on your side!!!!! Mind you, I have a husband who works away alot and it works both ways as far as we are both concerned. I've got permission to go storm chasing for my 40th with the guys from here but hubby is totally not interested as he finds it all very boring. Not sure if I can summon the courage to be a 'go it alone girl'.

  13. From the forecast I wasn't expecting anything other than heavy rain today and boy that's what I got. It got a bit gusty and chilly earlier but the rain just kept coming. My back garden is the most flooded I've ever seen it. Had to laugh cause there is a little frog out in part of the garden making the most of it ....... he's sitting in a pool of water right next to the remnants of my daughters snowman (which is all the snow that is left now).

I'm watching this thread to see how the Country File forecast for this week pans out as last week they had it pretty spot on.

  14. From 9am this morning till 1.30pm we've had heavy snow. It didn't start to settle until 10.30am as the ground was so wet due to the rain overnight. This still managed to give us an accumulation of 2 inches. Wow. We've had a lot of road closures and I've had to brave the snow filled roads to pick up our kids from their schools as they were closed early. I offered to pick up quite a few from two schools in two journeys as I've got a 4x4, seeing the cars being towed and sliding all over the shot, I'm glad I had my little bus.

It's stopped for the time being and it's also melting pretty fast.

  15. Really chuffed for you all. Sounds like fun but please do take care.

We've had just rain here and the occasional shower of sleet. It's not unusual for us as we normally miss it when the South West gets it. Not complaining though cause earlier in the week we had the best snow Poole has seen for approx 22 years and I was getting a bit bored of slippling on the decking everytime I went out for a ciggie anyway!

Enjoy guys but please look after yourselves.

  16. Had about 1 cm and a bit in an hour here (15 miles north of Bournemouth), my car was clear at 9, and its still coming down. Meteox even has some red coming our way, woot.

Same here but apparently it is going to turn to rain. The temps are going up...... and I was so excited that I wouldn't have to go to work tomorrow too! I am going to try and post a piccie in a mo. I can't believe that almost all of our 2 inches had pretty much gone by 6pm this evening but now my back garden is a white out again. I am really so utterly gobsmacked at this weather we are having it is so rare.
