  1. Snow in London, Oxford, East Midlands, Dorset for heaven's sake- Dorset, in a northerly- and Jack all here again even though the wind is right for a Cheshire gap effect. Not turning to rain for no reason in those places like Friday night's did here. What is wrong with the West Midlands this winter? Still can't believe I saw a perfect Cheshire Gap streamer turn to rain and thaw on Friday. Never, ever seen that happen before.
  2. Lol I just posted mine and saw yours above it must have appeared while I was typing... It is a good halo though :-)
  3. Missing here by miles, funny how it gets nowhere near Shropshire when there's no warm sectors to mess it up. Flow is still Nly so it could come through the Cheshire gap but nothing is forming for some reason. Nice halo round the moon though....
  4. Finally below freezing, though seems to have gone a little hazy. Hopefully it will not warm up again...
  5. Highest Max 15C on 9th (record since at least 1988) Lowest max 3C several days Lowest min -4C on 19th Air frosts 7 Snow falling 9 Snow lying@ 0900 2 Max depth 1cm on 14th A really frustrating month with lots of cold synoptics that seldom translated into low temperatures. Countless clear nights that didn't freeze, and temperatures stuck around 2-3C for hours or days on end. Despite a high number of days with snow it never lay on the ground for more than 12 hours at a time.
  6. Virtually all the snow gone now, a nice sunny day apart from that wind.
  7. Surprisingly most of that dusting is still there, though I suspect not for much longer. But it's survived to 9am so Feb gets a day of snow lying too. All three winter months now, but not yet recorded more than 1cm.
  8. Snowing in a real howling wind, looks to have put down a dusting. Surprised given the temp failed to.drop to freezing yet again.
  9. Clear and moonlit out there, yet still we can't get an air frost! Haven't had one in this so called cold spell.
  10. Unbelievable. It has virtually all gone. Was a decent cover too. Really starting to hate this winter now. And yet again the East was less affected by the mild stuff. Why the same again and again? That setup last night had the look of a Christmas 2004 or even 17 Dec 2010- yet the backbuilding stuff ended up as rain after the initial burst had been snow. It shouldn't happen like that when stuff comes from the North surely!
  11. Can't believe it- hammering down with rain. What on earth do we have to get this winter to get snow to stay. Every time it manages to stick we get mild muck and rain behind it, usually from the north. That looked like a classic Cheshire Gap snow setup earlier with no warm sector, what the hell is milder air doing in it?
  12. 5C at Hawarden now eek! We don't want any precipitation from that direction if it's going to bring that in. Snow cover still holding, sleepy stuff didn't do any damage.
  13. Whatever it was its stopped. Phew... Now please freeze!
  14. I'm trying, I'm trying, come on, come onnnnnnnnn........ It's stopping I think. Saw the moon a minute ago..
  15. That looks like sleet out there now, please not again! If you can't bring more snow just clear and freeze!
  16. Started again, but it looks very wet now. Hmmm. Don't you dare do any damage to my covering! And if there is any milder air to the north, stay put! Ahh, I type that and it goes back to looking like proper snow...
  17. Still a few flakes floating around, was quite heavy for half an hour or so and seemed to turn more to powdery snow towards the end. 2cm covering on all surfaces.
  18. Hopefully, it's been about time!. Just hope this can stay on the ground more than a few hours, that's been the problem this winter.....
  19. Goodness, it's sticking on everything now. Close to 1cm in 10 minutes, very unexpected.
  20. It's snowing here just north of Shrewsbury. Was wet but has just got heavier and is sticking better. Much more wintry than last night...
  21. Snowing again, but seems wetter this time. Not again surely? Dusting from earlier is still there, please can the temperature go down at night for once? Every time something starts falling it seems to go up, even though the dewpoints are subzero the temp refuses to join them.
  22. Still snowing, has managed to leave a sugar coating on the paths and even the road outside. Will we finally get an air frost tonight?
  23. Snowing here, and surprisingly starting to stick. Will probably not last once it stops but it's an improvement on last night...
  24. So it had warmer uppers north and west of it even miles up at 500mb, not just stuff that got mixed in low down. Maybe we should call it a "subpolar low" because it initially looked like a polar one, but formed in the wrong conditions. Like those "subtropical storms" that at first look like hurricanes but form over water too cool for true hurricanes to develop.
  25. Absolutely balmy out there, 5C and sunny. This is not a cold spell at all, we haven't even had an air frost since Tuesday last week. Showers passing west of here but they look to be of rain.
