  1. No rain here, a grey morning but sun trying to appethethe ar now. Really hope its not too wet the next few days and we manage some sun; as this month stands a chance of being warmer, drier and sunnier than average at the moment. The last summer month to do so was June 2010.
  2. Just looking at the stats on Roger Brugge's site: it really is amazing how many sites so far have an average max above 20C for June, yet have not reached 25C. Much of the west Midlands (Shawbury, Coleshill, Church Lawford) and large parts of the south and east, as well as Wales. Note how far inland some of these sites are, yet they still can't breach the 23-24C barrier near the solstice. This lack of variation in maxima has been a constant theme of every month this year.
  3. Those East Anglia/Lincs storm clouds are visible from the Welsh border!
  4. Another nice afternoon/evening, clear except for a line of towering cumulus visible very low on the E horizon. I guessed they were over Birmingham, but on the satellite there's nothing nearer than Lincolnshire and Norfolk. They must be really high tops to see from here.
  5. A lot more cloud than yesterday but still some good breaks. That pesky N/NW wind is trying to come back though, it was so nice not to have it yesterday.
  6. What a fantastic day, must have had at least 14 or 15 hours of sunshine. Never more than a few clouds, and there was very little wind save for a brief spell around 7-8pm. The sort of day that was common in the 90s but very rare since 2006.
  7. Been there, done that, soaking up the sun. Really nice to see the sun between noon and 4pm for once!
  8. Less than 3/8 small Cu, temperature 23.8C- absolutely gorgeous day.Much less cloud than last two afternoons and lost that annoying NW about wind too.
  9. Its been quite reasonable so far. No washouts or really cold days, and one storm which is good for here these days. Not bad for sun, a bit too much pesky cloud the last few days but much better than most recent summer months. The only let-down has been the lack of really warm days, nothing higher than 24C despite several 21s and 22s. Not hit 25C in June since 2011, and heading for the 3rd consecutive year, and 4ththe out of 5, when June has a lower absolute max than May
  10. Beautiful sunshine now for past hour, took its time but we can join in at last...
  11. Its pleasant enough in the sunshine, but Im struggling to understand why the 22-23C barrier is proving so hard to beat this month. Especially as it has been in Scotland, and there isn't the low sea temperature anomaly of last June. June 2010 was quite similar to this month weatherwise, but it made 25 on quite a few days then.
  12. Sun has been coming out since 12, still quite a bit of cloud around though. Apart from Monday which was nice enough, there's been too much cloud in this spell for my liking. When the West is favoured, it's only west Wales, Cornwall and N Scotland that get the sun. When the East, it's the East Midlands and East Anglia. We just end up on the wrong side every time!
  13. Still there, low down just E of due N. (0125 BST) Seem to have got a little brighter, but lower down at the same time.
  14. Brilliant meteor in north, about 15 deg up just now! Left visible trail
  15. 0010 BST 17/6/14 Some more now visible due N and slightly E of it, only about 3-5 deg above horizon.
  16. Visible now, 16/6/14 2346BST lat 52deg 45m N long 2deg 45m W. Direction NNW altitude between about 7 and 10 degrees. To the left of star Capella.
  17. The lack of temperature extremes this year is what stands out. So far no ice days, no minima below -4C or max above 24C, almost every day in the range 6-11C Jan/Feb, 11-18C March/April, 16-22C May and June. And every time we get high pressure it ends up full of cloud after 2 days for some reason. I suspect the amount of winter rain is causing this to some extent. Anyone else noticed the creepy crawlies been really bad this year?
  18. Been in Barmouth today and it was glorious- bright sun, light winds and 21C. All the time you could see heaps of cloud inland that never moved, while it was blue overhead and out to sea. Just got back to Shrewsbury and there is still cloud around, an hour after sunset.
  19. Was lovely until an hour ago when another of those sheets of nuisance cloud moved in from the NW and is refusing to budge. Please go away, you're not welcome. 23C but feels warmer, we could get a 25 if only the cloud would get lost....
  20. Glorious day, 22C and lots of blue sky. Some cirrus/aircraft pollution visible but only on the horizon. Sun feeling warm.
  21. Thunderstorm in Shrewsbury 1415-1430: brief but appeared out of nowhere. Rain heavy but only for 5-10 minutes; lightning seen.
