  1. The remnants of an old weather front in the form of patchy high cloud has moved north to Durham...blocking the sun for about an hour, but it is has now burned off completely and died...and the sun has come out. Current temperature has now shot up in the sunshine to the dizzy heights of 18C!!!
  2. Sunny, but rather cool at only 10C and humidity at 85%. There is barely any noticable wind direction and i am annoyed that this so-called 'mini heatwave' is stubbornly sticking in the south. I booked my holiday on Wednesday on the north-east coast expecting it to be at least 25C there and its only going to be 20C. Bloody typical!
  3. Pretty muggy day here today...should be warmer tommorow as winds swing from SW to a southerly.
  4. It's become pretty humid here at around 85% humidity...but only 20.5C...
  5. Only 19C altho lots of glorious sunshine and clear blue skies in a light to moderate westerly. When is that heatwave coming ?
  6. I think that Katrina will have become nothing more than a bog-standard depression of 998 millibars by the time it reaches UK. Expect nothing more than rustling leaves....
  7. Yeah...i just wish that GFS reading came true and we had mini-supercells crossing the country.
  8. lOL. Talking of hitting like pigs...how about this GFS reading for south-west england. Looks quite wild.....
  9. Lol...look at this 5-day forecast for New Orleans.... I love that symbol for Monday, never seen it before.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=0274
  10. I think that's a pretty much spot-on prediction. However....i don't think this storm will cause as much devastation as Hurricane Andrew did to Florida.
  11. Technically, the hurricane is still feeding moisture and heat from the Gulf of Mexico - so it has no reason to fragment and weaken as of yet. And yes...as far as i understand it, the spinning of the hurricane system is a small part of the strengthening process...but it also depends on surrounding synoptic conditions.
  12. There hasn't been a single drop of rain here today. Been mostly cloudy and uneventful in comparison with the thundery rain last week.
  13. The sun is finally out...i can see those drizzle clouds burning away and retreating towards the coast...Some cumulus cloud is starting to head in from the west tho...
  14. I'm going to move to East Anglia.....apparently your the most thundery place in the UK with the highest number of thundery days...
  15. The drizzle has stopped. Drying out now...slightly brighter but still overcast with layers of stratus. Humidity dropping to 90%...pressure at 1015 rising very slowly.
  16. I tend to notice sometimes we get pretty large CB's on the East coast in winter, if we have a north-east wind blowing and if there is a good area of convergence.
  17. After a brief drying period...the heavy drizzle seems to have returned now. A light NE breeze....nice..
  18. Cloudy with heavy drizzle. 96% humidity and temperature at 14C. Pressure at 1015 steady.
  19. Storm Report on behalf of my friend: - At 4.30pm my colleague who works for Durham Surestart was driving to Sedgefield on his usual rounds, when he was caught in a very heavy rainstorm. A large part of the dual carriageway from Darlington to Sedgefield area turned into a mini-river as torrents came down for up to 15 minutes. He had never seen rain like it apparently. A few flashes of lightning were also reported. The storm developed over Durham City at around 3.00pm and headed south slowly...arriving in the southern reaches of the County by 4.00...deluges reported in Chilton, Ferryhill and further south towards Sedgefield.
  20. Heavy showers building all around....21C...80% humidity....light NW wind.
  21. Looks like the thundery showers are not going to materialise. Convection seems to have reduced significantly since 1pm in the north-east....damn it. EDIT - Although there are a few isolated cells developing, mostly hugging the East coast, with the odd rogue one likely to come inland...i think its going to be very hit and miss.
  22. Just had a very heavy downpour....lasted for 5 minutes and died out suddenly.
  23. Heavy showery rain...just heard a crack of thunder towards the East...
  24. In Durham: - 9C.... 8mph N/W.... Relative Humidity = 70% Pressure 1020 - rising very slowly
  25. Yea...early autumn and spring are the seasons in which we normally get lots of abrupt blustery convectional showers because of the north-westerly wind is more predominant at that time. It's also because of the position of the gulf stream, lower air pressure and increased convergence from cooler polar maritime atlantic air mixing with the warmer plumes still lingering to the south.
