I would prefer to call it a blustery thundery shower than a 'storm'...it was suprisingly brief and only lasted for 10 mins. The rain came down in random bursts rather than a sustained downpour...but there were 4 claps of thunder and some sheet lightning. Very localised...
Just had a sharp shower here in Durham with about 4 claps of thunder. Impressive! Quite hefty but very isolated shower....has drifted off the Durham coast.
Wind has changed direction from a NW to a Westerly...humidity at 66% and temperature at 16C. There are some notable anvils developing towards the south-west.
Glorious clear blue sky...gentle north-westerly breeze with a few towers building to the south-east. Pressure 1016 mb (falling), temp. 15C and with 85% humidity (falling steadily).
I think areas of North-East England and areas north of north Yorkshire will remain embedded in low cloud and drizzle for much of the day...especially near the coast.
Here in Durham...we have a cold north-easterly breeze, its quite gentle though mostly. Heavy drizzle and thick cloud with a temperature of 13C...it feels cold, but humidity is very high. I actually quite like this weather!!!
Temp. here in Durham is 17C with 80% humidity...Rain since dawn but it has mostly been light and patchy with the odd sharp burst. Generally...Durham is a very boring climate...
We need 'weeks' of rain to make a substantial difference? That's utter rubbiDoh a dumb swear filter got the better of me Don't rely on groundwater! Just collect the water in reservoirs and store it in an efficient way. And i reckon that people waste too much water anyway.
As the sun comes out in County Durham, i can see considerable convection developing towards the Durham and Wear coastline. Could be some localised cells developing by 5pm. Brisk NW wind. If we have enough sunny interludes, could have a sharp shower.
