Well so far on the Isle of Lewis, this summer has been crap.Windy, cool, dull, damp…crap and with no indications of any change to weather patterns in next ten days, the status quo will continue.I might watch some documentaries on how climate change is going to melt Europe or I might just dig out that classic film ‘The day the earth caught fire’.Whatever happens in the remainder of the summer away from these western isles,I will be looking forward to winter due to the guaranteed appearance of snow, ice, severe gales here, however I know for sure,no matter how cold,or how snowy or how windy it is here (and on mainland Scotland for that matter) will the U.K. media care.So let it be written,so let it be done.

High pressure looks to ridge in across south late next week it looks to remain overall more changeable further north, with mountain snow but that’s as exciting as it gets. This winter highlights the importance of polar vortex it has been running on steroids on all winter and it has overwhelmed every other more favourable teleconnection not even robust eQBO was enough to bring -AO.
Oh Danny boy, like so many posters herein, they stay south of the Scottish Borders and forget that in Scotland we do have very different weather.Seems strange but it’s true.Granted, snowfall is vastly reduced this season but it’s been well stormy! Hardly anticyclonic. There’s been snowfall here on Isle of Lewis and sea level snowfall at that, with drifts on the modest hills lasting three or more days. This week, the Stornoway to Ullapool ferry sailings were cancelled for three days! Anti cyclonic nothingness? Maybe these types of declarations belong in the regional threads?

Many here in Scotland will see more snow as the warm front moves in later this week, being quickly followed by cold air for a time.

They are a very sour bunch in there... someone jumped on my post straight away moaning.. never seen them post in the thread before so clearly jealous of my dusting...
The model thread ‘becomes’ the English regional thread if there’s a hint of snow in southern England.Anyway, the Clisham Pass on Harris just now…

They are as good as in the Artic circle ........................what's your point
The post was a reply to a previous statement by another poster.Apps showing the snow chances for points north of the border and will most likely verify due to…being so far north.

Mate.. it’s over.
this “event” was never likely in any situation tbh. GFS being typical and being it’s usual self..
people need to learn and not take every run like the 6z as gospel. It’ll only lead to disappointment.
follow UKMO and ECM imo..
can’t see any snow event or anything noteworthy through the rest of jan.

Would have been odd if it were otherwise. how else do you describe 16c in late December!
There is a difference between reporting and laying it on thick.

What today's FI output still has, is an unusual pattern in the Arctic. It has that in common with good winters, so that's where the hope of many still stems from.
Here is Christmas Day for four years, would you like them?
Well, number 3 looks good! you might say, but that ridge turned into a UK high (All the cold goes to Turkey!). I could hear the moaning.
Yet these are the Christmas Day charts for the numbers 9, 6, 3 and 1 on the list of most severe winters in Holland since 1901.
They all started delivering their best goods later on.As much as I like looking at these charts from years before computer models were invented,I ask how does anyone know what the pressure, synoptics and depths were in 1901? Are they crude extrapolation?

All the talk on the model thread regarding a breakdown of the heatwave when here on Isle of Lewis, there’s been little if any sunshine for days.Intermittent drizzle has just tempered the fire risk on the moors which has been high for a few weeks also.Currently 12c,cloudy and if there’s no sunshine soon the heat exchange between indoors and outdoors will result in the need for central heating to be put on.
