  1. Not raining here yet but Wow!......i know its getting dark, but I havent seen a sky so angry looking in a long time.....I surprised not to have seen any lightning yet, but i can make out what looks to be something akin to a gust/squall line moving in from the SW.....I'm not too clued up on the technical side of storms but the breeze has suddenly picked up from the SE, is this storm outflow winds??
  2. In response to earlier posts, this is why I love Britain's volatile & very unpredictable weather...In just the space of 3 or 4 hours the tough and associated rain/storms approaching the devon coast has grown rapidly from nothing! I would hazard a guess that anywhere from plymouth through to Sussex could feel the effects before dawn...
  3. wish I had a bluetooth card on my computer.....Getting some nice cloud formation pics on my mobile.....very disturbed looking sky, there's lots of outflow and it looks like someone took a giant spoon & stirred up the sky!.....havent got a cat, but the seagulls (bloomin' pests!) have stopped making their usual evening racket!
  4. The I.O.W detector is picking up lightning in the western english channel http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm
  5. I agree, I'm right here on the S Devon coast and its now clouded over to the south (large cirrus veil/anvil), the breeze has dropped off and it has that 'thundery' feel about it...The veil is slow moving so it'll be a while before anything happens, Just hope it cranks up a bit in the lightning dept
  6. No lightning showing up on the site detectors, but I've just popped outside for a look, and there is a big anvil stretching right the across the sky to my south..It must be big as its its only just over the horizon!.....On a side note, down 'ere in Devon we normally get night time storms, my question being, how to they keep their intensity when there is no heating from the sun...? (apologies in advance if that is a dumb question!)
  7. Just looked at eh 1830 met-office radar...wow!...Thats an impressive arc of storms over the midlands & S/E......There are more individual cells firing up over the channel Islands & Normandy...I'll be very interested if these cells hold together whilst crossing the channel...There might be hope for the west country yet!
  8. Storms?......whats all the fuss about? lol....I'm positively green with envy! Its , warm & sunny here in south devon, & I'd swap it for thunder, lightning & torrential rain in a heartbeat!
  9. Interesting build up of cloud to my south in the English Channel......Large TCu development and it looks like anvils are starting to form....I didnt expect any development here tonight, I thought it would be over SW cornwall if anywhere...The clouds seem to be moving NW'erly.. well I'll keep my fingers crossed for a lightning display later on!
  10. There were some light snow flurries today up in north devon where I was working, and I've just driven home down to Torbay, and guess what?......steady cold rain.....bugger!...lol Looking on the brightside though at least I saw a few flakes today! PS Is there any likely hood of this rain down here turning to snow overnight?

  13. Storm here in torbay, average 5 flashes per minute....all intercloud, no CG....first storm moving to the north, more lightning visible off the coast to my south
  14. 1st storm of the year......5 strikes per minute.....all cc at the moment....heavy rain at the mo
  15. Currently 14c here in Brixham...Steady rain for the last 30 mins.....no electrical activity as of yet........calm winds, and high humidity
  16. hey guys, am back home again, are there any more storms on the way for south devon?.....radar looks pretty uneventfull at the moment!
