  1. I've been a bit disappointed with the shower activity today. I've only managed a cm or 2 at a push. The radar looks promising with that clump out in the North Sea but I suspect it will get sucked down to the North York Moors.
  2. ECM Yes please. A Feb 91 on top of what we already have would be bonkers.
  3. I fell asleep and by the looks of the radar we missed the heaviest stuff here with it skirting just to our West. But it looks like there's been a few hours of light snow. Currently light to moderate snow falling with medium sized flakes. Still snowing lightly - there's maybe a cm or 2 fallen (not been out to check).
  4. Looks like this might hit me just to the West of Durham as long as it survives the hills. I'm tempted to stay up another hour to see.
  5. I would agree with that, it's on cue from what dissipated over the highlands. It's got a few hours to intensify so hopefully we'll see something decent, especially those to the South of the region. Next three days looking good with the models picking up lots of showers. I'd expect with the instability about that there may be more PPN than is currently being forecast. Perhaps showers bunching together for some more prolonged bands of snow? We need to keep an eye on Thursday as well with that little feature potentially giving something more organised.
  6. Latest model runs and Fax show Thursday to be very snowy. I think it's just going to be a nowcast situation. I wouldn't rule out anything although I'd admit that snow chances tonight are reduced compared to earlier runs.
  7. Just back from Italy and the snow is fantastic! In the untouched spots round our house there's about 17/18cms or 7 inches but it's clear there's less in other areas so the fact that everything has been undisturbed has really let the snow accumulate. 15cms on the roof of my car. Double that by the end of the week?
  8. Thanks for that, hopefully we'll get home before the fun and games start. Hopefully we'll see something significant shortly. To me it looks like a Greeny block gradually progressing Eastwards which should be good news for us long term. Ideally I'd like to see snow like Jan 05 which saw significant amounts in the dales (not sure how we compare this year) or like 03 or 04 i think where we got a significant fall from an isolated overnight system which just seemed to affect the North East.
  9. I'll change to a crazy 1.3C please. Just because no one has chosen it yet and there's a chance for a very cold month imo (even though I think my guess of 3.4C was more realistic)!
  10. Can anyone give me an update on the conditions around Druham City please? I'm skiing in Italy since Sunday and just wondering if the snowcover has stayed or melted and what the shower activity has been like. I'd also be interested in predicted conditions for NCL Airport on Sunday afternoon which is when we're due back. Thanks.
  11. I'm in Sestriere atm. When we arrived on Sunday it was cold and it was clear a huge amount of snow had fallen recently; I guess it was the 22nd Dec fall. Since then it has got warmer, especially yesterday and today, but there has been frequent snow showers throughout the week. Yesterday there was snow, there was rain in the early hours of this morning which turned to snow. Rain again in the village today turning to snow around 2pm with a few cms falling by 5pm. We got stuck on a ski lift earlier today for around 30 mins because of high winds and snow at the top. There's a lot of work going on to open new pistes; the snow park is also being constructed. Local forecast says light snow tomorrow and more on the 1st with the snow level dropping. After we leave on Sunday the freezing level is set to plummet and I'd suspect there'll be a high chance of significant falls, it's a shame we'll be going home!
  12. Snow on the ground and snow falling here. It's given a cover on the exposed surfaces so I guess that means officially white Christmas for Durham.
  13. It's very much snow here even though net weather radar says sleet. Temp is below freezing and it's lying on the roads, especially where untreated. No more than a few mm though, very light falls atm.
  14. Snowing lightly in meadowfield, Durham. Official White Xmas likely for my location. :-) Just a shame my bet for London didn't come off. £25 at 8-1 would have been a good xmas present.
  15. Drizzle here but just been out in the car and it's definitely frozen hitting the windscreen. The next area of precip looks like it'll go round me in a circle. We're picking up more of a easterly feed so it might fall as rain anyway.
  16. No change in intensity but the flakes are huge. And the models this morning look good for our location. It's a shame i'm skiing from the 27th to the 3rd because it look like I'll miss it!
  17. A few cms this through the night which I missed and then moderate to light snow this morning giving a top up. Very nice scenes.
  18. GWO quickly into phase 6 MJO moving from phase 7-8 Surely there should be me blocking around Greenland and Iceland showing on the models?
  19. Just been to measure the snow. 9.5cm, that's on a bit of pavement that's in the open and never gets walked on. I dug down to the asphalt and measured the side with a tape measure. I must admit it's more than I thought there was. If anyone doubts I am prepared to take photographs, lol. More measurements: Middle of the road 9cm, Opposite pavement 8cm.
  20. Admittedly there's less than 3 inches in places but I measured in an open area near the junction. It's difficult to measure these things exactly.
  21. I have about 3 inches on the road near me. Though there was some flattened snow on there before tonight's falls. Generally walking about the snow was up to the top of my boot so again would suggest about 3 inches. PP where are you exactly? 4cm seems a bit low?
  22. You're right, I'd agree with you in general. Was just a 5 minute spell earlier, when the wind increased out of nowhere.
  23. Real intense spell at the moment with increased winds. Drifting conditions.
