  1. If you’ve ever wondered what the Canadian Rockies is like in summer.....
  2. I’m like that in Canada when it hits minus 30 or below. It’s miserable. But cold in the UK is so much more depressing due to the dampness IMO. I’d rather have minus 15 in dry sunny air than zero in the UK.
  3. Thankfully , though very wet, no where near as bad as I’ve seen it in the past (ie 2013) Around 100mm in favoured sports but generally 50-100mm reported. It helped that the rain was lighter than forecast but also colder temps helped lessen the snowmelt and potential flooding as some new snow has fallen on the mountains. In fact some areas of the foothills have some good amount of snows.
  4. Yeah sure was. This was the view from the back of the house. Ended up spending a few nights on the floor in my 2nd floor office downtown which wasn’t affected. It’s flown by, certainly doesn’t feel like 9 years!
  5. An interesting, worrying few days ahead. Forecasts are for possibly 150mm or even more of rain locally. Though more widely 75-100mm being mentioned. In the devastating floods of 2013 we had 220mm. So it’s a way off that but water levels are already quite high. I think there’s going to be some problems from this but not on the scale of 2013 (fingers crossed) But if it stalls and amounts are higher, then things could go down hill quickly. Hopefully the measures put in place after that flood, such as extra protection and enforcement of various flood defences, will help ease the strain. Watch this space...
  6. Winter has returned with a vengeance across large parts of southern Alberta. There are snowfall warnings in place too. Up to 20cm’s possible...
  7. After an unsettled cool and often wet/snowy period, spring/summer looks like it’s finally arriving. By next week I wouldn’t be surprised to see temps across southern Alberta widely up to 25oC and even the magical 80oF (27oC) might be hit in some favoured spots. Although the diurnal range will be quite large with nighttime temperatures still getting down to mid and in some places low single figures or even close to freezing.
  8. A typical spring day today. Very wet and heavy snow. Sticking to most surfaces except some sidewalks and roads. Once it stops it’ll probably melt within a few hours
  9. Yeah very true. I was amazed in May ‘08 after having 2.5 ft of snow that most of it was gone within 3 days when the temps rose quite quickly.
  10. The next few days are going to have wild temperature swings. From currently minus 2 some areas may get as high as 24oC (Medicine Hat) through tomorrow and Friday, with even Edmonton and Calgary now looking to get into the 20’s. Then a rapid cool down with temps below freezing during the day by Monday and snow for many over the weekend. You gotta love spring weather in Alberta
  11. You can’t go wrong with places around blue bell hill on the north downs of north Kent. (Blue bell hill village being prime location at over 600ft asl). A lot of places over 450 ft asl and benefit hugely from NE winds and streamers including orographic lift that enhances snowfall. So many times I’ve had inches of snow there when no-one else has. I’ve witnessed easily well over 5 times with a foot of snow and over 2ft of snow in ‘87.
  12. Gradual warm up for much of Alberta over the next week (maybe the exception being Tuesday with possible snow) I wouldn’t rule out a 70oF (21oC) by next weekend somewhere in southern Alberta (maybe Medicine Hat or Lethbridge)
  13. That is impressive - couple of cm’s of snow in Canmore this morning
  14. A snowy morning this morning with a few cm’s of snow on most surfaces. The sun’s out now though, melting most of it. A generally unsettled week ahead with more possible snow overnight/early mornings followed by daytime melts. 10cm of fresh snow at Sunshine overnight - great spring skiing ⛷
  15. Well it’s started and to be fair it’s pretty heavy and starting to accumulate. These are good webcam to watch it live for anyone interested... courtyard: https://youtu.be/gT_Y_L_gACU main street:https://youtu.be/emI8r2dfk6g
  16. Yeah I bet. It’s been pretty poor for the SE this year hasn’t it. Not sure there’s even been any snow falling has there?
  17. Another snowfall warning of up to 20cm in a short sharp burst of snow from this afternoon through to late evening
  18. As expected nothing to write home about. Maybe 5cm max and now snowmelt underway. Wet on roads and sidewalks with little snow left. Forecast is still for a few more cm’s today but I can’t see that happening at all.
  19. It’s been a fairly snowy day today but no accumulation. Forecast of around 10-15cm’s by end of tomorrow. I’m not so sure to be honest.
  20. They were forecasting 10oC today which would be close to a date record. Though it’s been reduced a few degrees. I always find the beginning of March fascinating. So different from yeah to year. In 2010 it was the warmest March 1 ever at 10.3oC and in 2014 it was -34oC (coldest March 1 ever) Just 2 years ago was the most snow ever on this date at 40cm. Anyway the warm weather goes tonight with a drop in temps and rain turning to snow. Maybe slight accumulation. Then a potentially snowy and somewhat cooler week in store.
  21. So funny you say that as I just played it and thought the same
  22. A stunning day in the Rockies today. Deep blue skies against a back drop of fresh snow capped mountains. For me there really is no place like the Rocky Mountains ?
