I agree - things are built to a higher safety spec than in my Dad's time in any event.

I have to admit that in the computer room at home, we leave all three comps on (standby) the whole time (and the fax etc). I also leave most electrical appliances plugged in which my Dad told me never to do. He was a fireman in London Fire Brigade and told us that even if the telly is switched off, if it is still plugged in the wall, it could cause a fire.

Funny you should mention that but I brought in two plants - one a geranium and the other a flowering cacti - I brought them into the conservatory thinking they would be better in there than out in the frost and they had the same symptoms - withering up of the leaves, etc and the geranium flower buds were dying from the top down. I wondered whether I had killed them by bringing them by giving them a temperature change - I put the geranium back out, but it still looks poorly.
