Temperature 0.4C - rather chilly tonight and when I was walking back from the station it seemed misty - or maybe that was smoke from all the fireworks?
-
A few colder ensembles have started appearing in the De Bilt ECMWF ensembles - baby steps maybe?
-
6.1C please
-
Are we going to see any Mulzy?
I would say highly unlikely...
-
Morning all - cloudy here, maybe a bit misty but no fog and 12.6C.
Can't wait for the change on Thursday as this weather is rather depressing - probably won't see the sun till Friday...
-
Last one from me-
The only models ensembles that I havent discarded once.....

S
London ECM Ensembles have also moved colder in the medium term.

With regards to the reliability of the various GFS runs, would be very interesting to see the anomaly correlation for days 6,7,8. The day 5 anomaly correlation seems to suggest negligible differences in the verification between the various runs.
We can all cherry pick examples to prove a particular point, but I think these verification charts should take some of the subjectivity out of the debate.
My two pence and probably time to move on from this discussion....
Edit: Just seen the reply from Chio with regards stats from days 8-10.
-
10.2C please
-
Met Office 1-month and 3-month forecast skewed more towards colder than average than warmer than average.

Charlwood hits the magic 30C!

Has 30C been broken in any of the offical stations in the SE yet? Possibly St James Park?

Am I the only miserable grump that finds this weather too hot? Kids are grumpy, everyone short tempered and now takes 2hours to get 3miles because of the Olympic traffic and stupid tourists who stand in exits to read maps!
Lol I am old and grumpy, it is lovely to see the sun and be able to go out if I want rather than if it stops raining. It's one extreme to the other 28c possibly wed? And then my met office app showing 18c on Sunday!
Think ice cold cider tonight and a BBQ will make me feel better! Would have a drink now but kids are here! Anyone for babysitting?!
Have fun all!
I'd rather prefer 28C to 18C - shame that this wonderful weather is expected to breakdown on Friday then back to rubbish (possibly right through to the end of August).
Enjoy folks, enjoy! Just got back from a two hour lunchbreak, boss not too happy but do I care?
-
Hats off to Gfs, it does get a lot of flack, but it has set the trend in recent days! No point fighting online as to which model is best! Anyway back to the models, and lots of heat and humidity for the south in the next week, then the north cental areas, plagued by that cold front...Looks as though some very thundery conditions developing later in the south by Thursday/Friday.....
What's there to fight about? The ECM is the gold standard as the verification stats show.

I hear that people are already suffering SAD symptoms. Cripes! What are they going to feel like come the depths of winter poor souls. My writing has suffered enough what with the gloomy weather and my moggie dying. And I've got a writers conference in September. Must stop radar and sky watching.
HI Keraophile,
Maybe it's to do with expectations - not sure. I guess in Winter, we know there will be a lack of sunshine, whereas in Summer we expect to see some decent sunny weather. Speaking for myself, this weather is getting me down far more that the gloom of Winter.

morning all just looked deep into f1 weather looks dire up to july 28
Buddy, its FI not f1 - FI = Fantasy Island, f1 = formula one (where fast cars go round a circuit)

Morning folks - lovely start here in SW London. Chilly night though - a low of 9C.
-
looking at the radar mulzy I am not surprised.. take a look. a nice beast above you! Any rumbles too ?
No rumbles Polar Bear. The rain started suddenly and stopped suddenly - 20ish minutes of torential rain
Local weather station reports about 6mm of rain in the last hour.
-
Pouring down here!
-
I'm not sure whether the rain currently in Hampshire/west Surrey will reach London tonight - seems to be spinning around that low to the southwest.
-
I'll go for 15.9c (I want 20+c but it's not going to happen!)
