Lightning just south of MK.
False return. I'm in MK and it's hot and sunny now with the odd cumulus floating about. Nothing thundery looking around at all, but i'm watching the sky as there is some energy available now the clouds broken so a storm popping up is possible this evening.

Fortunately the Bay of Biscay storm seems to be taking more of a northerly than NE track again!
It appears to be spawning new cells from the outflow. Numerous small ones are popping up rapidly. Here's hoping it comes this way overnight it's still insanely hot here, almost 26'c still at midnight in the center of MK.

Multiple strikes all round here..
Those two cells around you are really starting to kick out a large amount of lightning, not sure if it's the detector playing up, but producing in sporadic clusters of multiple strikes.

Cell popped up near Stowe on The Wold, confirmed lightning on blitzortung.org

33 now omg
Snap. 33'c in the center of MK now. It feels unbearable out there in the full sun.
-
Feels incredibly stormy outside here now, strong warm SE wind blowing, temp sitting at 24'c at nearly 10:30 and loads of mid level clouds bubbling up. Like a powder keg ready to explode, all we need is the match.
-
Some interesting cloud formations about this evening alto cumulus floccus and alto cumulus castellanus towers bubbling up signalling instability in the mid levels of atmosphere. See pic below. Interesting how precipitation with sporadic Lightning has broken out to my sw. Wasn't expecting to see anything tonight but looking promising.

A quick posting of a radar update showing an area of potential interest for storms over the coming few hours, as shown encircled in the colour red.
Rain incoming 1935hrs on 12th June 2015, could go boom.jpg
All the above is stated as a mere hunch, nothing especially scientific but still going on the current atmosphere profiling as well.
Fingers crossed your right. Been overcast all day with a max temp of 23.8'c. Very humid and calm outside still with 100% cloud cover and sporadic outbreaks of rain.

If LightningMaps is accurate the strikes are no more across the Channel.
Lightning maps real time is down. Fails to load any strikes later than 20min mark. use Netweather lightning overlay.

Hoping to see a storm Friday here. Looks like I'm in a prime location, would love to see clear skies all day building temps and CAPE and the storms break out in the evening and continue into darkness. Really need to try and get some nice lightning shots when it's dark.

Well I'm afraid to say that couldn't have been a more badly timed plume if it tried for me. Just finally finished all my awkward call outs in East London and ready to go chase but it literally just all stopped. PAH.
Next week there must be a plume isolated to Central South and South west areas only (oh and the North too) to redress the balance because so far this year has been mediocre for most of us for thunder!
I've heard 3 rumbles of thunder and seen one CG since July last year. Very poor storm wise.

The lightning rate on the storm SW of Amiens in France is insane 220 strike per min average and climbing. Hail core is equally impressive.

Cell South of Cambridge has split, the second portion to the south approaching Great Dunmow looked like it had a distinct hook echo and is right moving from the north cluster. Looks like a supercell on radar. Anyone have a visual?

Snowing really heavily in MK at the minute. Nice covering on everywhere and still coming down hard. Looks like a Possibility of more showers working in overnight so might see a couple of inches by morning
-
No snow here in Milton Keynes just horrible cold rain falling, been like this on and off all evening. 😞
-
@Buzzard. Keeps getting lighter and then darker here, looks like the line of storms is back building from what I can see from MK. You may be in for more still.
-
Currently stuck under the outflow of a line of active storms to my south, underneath the sheared anvils with moderate rainfall and sporadic elevated lightning and rumbles of thunder.
EDIT: HOLY F****N MOLEY, sorry for the language but we just had a huge positive CG from the anvil, the thunder was incredible and the lightning so bright the whole area lit up like a camera flash going off. I think I've poohed my pants a little

Video of the hail, not very clear for some reason even though it was filmed in HD, will have to see if I can up a better resolution through the pc and not the iPhone. You get the idea and can see them bouncing on the grass, some were the size and looked like oval shaped glacier mints. Small frosty looking core surrounded by clear ice, most were flat shaped too with a few jagged looking ice shards thrown into the mix.

1-2.5CM hailstones just fell in MK, now have constant thunder rolling across the sky from north to south. Got a video which I'll post later of the large hail.

Nice line of developing thunderstorms pushing out of Oxfordshire and heading NE towards MK area. Look very active lightning wise on the real time plotter. Almost constant ticks.
-
5 Minutes of Monsoon like rainfall with half a dozen rumbles of thunder just passed through Milton Keynes. Rainfall was insane absolute cloud burst.

I wonder where is the first lightning strike of the day will be in the UK on the live lightning map?
I'd say Lincolnshire or somewhere around the wash, perhaps further inland around Peterborough or Cambridgeshire. Round these parts it's been cloudy and humid all morning Temp has risen to 22.7'c and the sun is trying to break through the cloud layer. Feels incredibly potent out there still.

The so called MCS is twisting round to the left again that's interesting. Just ran the last 1hr animation.
Just checked any you are correct, very distinct anti clockwise rotation. If you look towards the back left side at that arc of rain wrapping around it almost looks like a pressure drop and a low pressure forming in the middle of the system.

Looks like anaprop to me, possibly due to the rise in humidity.
