  1. excellent stuff there bish. On a train back from York. Winter wonderland south of Leeds.
  2. I'm in York and absolutely bog all is happening. Not even a flake in the wind.
  3. Travelling up to York on the train. Killing time in Derby. Whilst it had snowed all night at home nothing settled. Only really started to see thawing lying snow around Loughborough.
  4. What is it like for you lot at the minute - especially folks in north Beds, north Bucks and west/north Cambs. Here we have moderate snow but nothing settling yet though the thermometer is on a strong downward trend +1.4C with a +0.2C dewpoint.
  5. I think tonight is just a taster really - I expect to wake up to some form of slushy deposit - maybes decent cover on the grass and what not, but not on the roads. I don't want too much disruption because I want to get up to York on my friend's stag-do! I suspect Saturday will be the killer day - particularly in the East Mids. Travel tomorrow daytime or Sunday afternoon!
  6. I have a good friend - retired Professor of Geophysics from Leicester University lives in Countesthorpe. But he also has a house in Wester Ross in NW Scotland!
  7. Getting heavier in NN10 but no sign of it settling.
  8. All snow here over the border into East Northamptonshire - and its light so far, so not relying on heavier bursts to turn it into proper snow. Bodes well, despite the fact I could well do without it tomorrow as travelling up to York.
  9. Light snow here now. Meant to be heading up to a stag do in York tomorrow, been looking forward to it for yonks. Hope the snow isn't too disruptive to prevent travelling up. Not coming back until Sunday, and the forecast is worse here on Saturday than up there.
  10. This will be a Midlands event. Far SW of the region might miss out (though I don't consider Gloucestershire, or even SW Warks as parts of the Midlands - too far south for me - even people question whether north Northants is the Midlands, yet is as at least far north as central Birmingham and borders on Lincolnshire). I'll miss the worse by being up in York on Friday-Sunday. Or will I?!?!
  11. I would expect it to start off as rain almost anywhere on low ground, its the intensity that matters. Demonstrated on Sunday when that area of precipitation moved south-north. And that was way way more marginal than this - those in a N-S line running from Oxford through Northampton got a spell of heavy snow - on the edges it was rain or sleet.
  12. Hmm, travelling to York on Friday for a stag-do. Could be fun. These style of events have often worked out here (albeit I haven't got a March example), even with marginal uppers and limited elevation (~ 80m). Head 15 miles down the road to Bedford and there can be naff all.
  13. Rain, sleet and wet snow (in heavier bursts) this morning.
  14. Possibly looking better for here now, most of the fleeting showers have been passing 20 miles or so north of here on a ENE direction - not to say we haven't had the odd flurry. Now the wind has taken on a bit more of a northerly element we should see more. Snowing now.
  15. I'm at a bit of loss how so little snowfall can cause disruption to be honest. I battled through only 5-6 inches in January on a Monday to get my son to Nursery out in the North Bed sticks (down minor roads) when all the schools were closed. Sure it was slow, and I had to drive very very carefully. Please explain?
  16. Snowing in Peterborough apparently. Should be on its way. In many respects good that it will start off as all snow, not after hours of rain. Temp here is 1.5C.
  17. Bring back Lennie Laurence! Ian Baird was an awesome player. Even in retrospect i'd rather have Trevor Putney and Robbie Mustoe in the team now!
  18. What's Bryan Robson up to nowadays? I know he got ill whilst managing the Thailand international team. He got us promoted twice lets not forget! Enjoyed that last season at Ayresome and promotion against Luton!
  19. How things were viewed in 2000. Has this been borne out? http://www.independe...ast-724017.html
  20. Low pressure in the channel will kill off any chance of convection here. Happy happy joy joy.
  21. Yes can't understand why there is no life in our Midlands thread!
  22. Anybody looking outside now? I'm down at Gatwick Airport and its snowing quite nicely here. Settling on the grass at least. Radar is a surprise.
  23. I'm down at Gatwick tonight - usual stuff as at home I thought - odd flake in the wind - went out for one last crafty smoke and its coming down moderately! Judging by the radar it will be at home in northants if not heavier soon!
