  1. The main gist of my post is that the use of fossil fuels and production of Co2, needs to radically be reduced before we argue the details of climate change. The fact that fossil fuels are not limitless and the associated geopolitical issues, mean they really have to be phased out. Everything that lives and breaths on earth has an impact upon it to some extent. Man has the ability to destroy itself of that I have no doubt, but I do not believe we can have a permanent impact, as we would be long gone before that could happen. Oceans are the biggest driver of climate, their take up of Co2 plays a major part of the process. In fact the 1st ever post I made on netweather was about the Ozone layer and 'possible' impacts on climate change and extreme weather events, that was back in 2005. I believe the climate is changing, it is warming, but I have never really been confident with the idea that it was simply down to mans Co2 output. It also intrigues me that the time line for Ozone depletion fits pretty well with the advent of increased extreme weather events?
  2. My own view is that global warming is without doubt happening, our over reliance on fossil fuels isn't good, and we will run out of the stuff in any case. So commonsense says we should look to replace fossil fuels with renewables, as there are so many benefits before we even get to the climate debate. As for the climate itself, its going through a natural warming phase, history does tell us that the climate changes, its likely that 1000 years ago the UK was warmer than it is now. Are humans impacting the climate? Probably a tiny bit IMO. Can humans cause long term or irreparable damage to the climate? No chance, mother nature cares not for humans, so she won't be too bothered if we do ourselves in, but she will simply cleanse the earth of any damage if any that we do. A decade ago you could not give nuclear power away, now people are falling over themselves to build these plants, one today got the go ahead in Suffolk?
  3. When it comes to water under the bridge, I put a few gallons under once, you could say I gave the go for throttle up :
  4. This was the scene from Dartford Bridge this afternoon, there were more fires then shown here :
  5. Its breezy cool and raining here in NW Kent, I have missed something
  6. Just come over Dartford Bridge - Looks like London is burning, 5 or 6 fires easily visible from the bridge..
  7. Surbiton will be Thames Water, actually Surbiton used to have a water treatment works, but good old TW sold it off for housing in the early 90s because it was supplying extra water they didn't need. As for restrictions, if they do happen this summer then I have no sympathy for the companies what so ever, but maybe it will lead to a proper probe into their activities over the past decade or so.
  8. It as finally launched today and its safely on its way to its orbit, really looking forward to seeing the 1st infra red images from it.
  9. Forgetting about these idiots in Glasgow, does anyone know of a tree planting scheme my business could join? I would be good to actually support something that was actually doing something positive, and if I could add something like a number of trees planted to my website, that would be both quite cool and satisfying. - Yes it is a serious question.
  10. Cop 26 will add more Co2 to the air then it reduces it by. 400 flights into Glasgow bring with them a wealth of world leaders and of course a multitude of celebrities creating 1300 tons of Co2. China not attending, the worlds biggest producer of Co2, double that of its nearest rival the US. A total and utter farce only worth attending for lavish meals and exclusive goodie bags. My worry is our world in in the hands of these self serving idiots!
  11. I could not find this subject anywhere else on here so I hope a new topic is the correct thing to do? I cannot believe that with the global climate being high on the agenda at the moment for most of the worlds governments that many central banks are considering or are at least exploring the possibility of adopting crypto currencies given the huge energy resources they consume. I thought I would start by linking this story from the FT for anyone who would like a closer look: Bitcoin’s growing energy problem: ‘It’s a dirty currency’ | Financial Times WWW.FT.COM Elon Musk has highlighted the cryptocurrency’s environmental impact and governments are starting to take notice
  12. We have had snow showers on and off this evening, and its snowing moderately here now, so its clinging on here on the edge of the band.
  13. The lazy way to get you photos from the Downs here in Kent, its too cold outside
  14. Thanks for your reply, I don't know if its good or bad, but I will keep a shovel handy, and they say these yeti's are good in the snow but that's not going to any good if I can't find it on Monday
  15. Can I ask some of the more experienced model gurus what they think I am going to get in snow for the North Downs here in NW Kent? Will my little 4wd Yeti get me out come Monday ?
  16. I am 108 mtrs halfway up the North Downs, It maybe borderline for me, often it will snow just a few feet away on the top of the downs so I can at least see it from my mud
  17. We have the lightest of all snow showers. about 6 flakes but it still counts Nothing on the radar at all ?
  18. That's true, if they are heading up Ealing high street, that is a bit different from just around the corner from a army base. I mean I see a Spitfire every day but that doesn't mean to say we are at war with Germany.
  19. Really staggered to see this? This concert took place 48hrs ago in Cardiff by the 'stereophonics'
  20. I found it very hard to get the information I needed on how to protect my pension from the volatility of the daily and mostly downward direction of the markets, but anyone with pension portfolio's or government funds can move the money within it to protect it. I think the equity markets are going to drop lower still, cash is king at the moment and moving into cash based funds for the time being may save a lot of money, and buy back into equities when they are a bit more stable.
  21. I know nothing about Virus's but I can do maths and stats, it is clear that events are leading the way and not the government, weather its people self isolating or events simply being postponed, the people do seem to be ahead of the game. We are not anyway close to being 3-4 weeks behind Italy, maybe a week - 10days with the pace of infection as it appears to be. The plan of a few days ago to start the delay phase appears to me to be way to late, this thing is coming through like an express train, and we are going to get a very high spike, albeit in a shorter space of time then was being projected just a day or 2 ago. The stats do say to me we are 2 weeks to late in introducing the delay and social distancing phase, the horse has already bolted IMO.
