  1. Thats what I am hoping for. They will be larger flakes and slower moving shower, so depositing more snow
  2. That makes sense, but what does not is that the wind has been ENE, E, ESE and the shower distribution has remained relatively constant
  3. Yes that right. Thats not what I am getting at. If you looked at the amount, size and intensity of the showers that have hit the coast line from Berwick to Whitby, you would see that the coastal area in my windward direction (Blyth - North Shields) has not had many showers. No streamer. Therefore, inland following that direction does not get them either.
  4. Possibly, but the sea is flat so why dont the showers build out to sea in the oncoming direction first?
  5. Same story here. Bands of showers to the South and North and a few flurries here with the odd heavier burst which lasts a few minutes at the most. This is clear on the radar. These are taken from this morning, but could have been taken at any time in the last 2 days to show the same pattern. Its just not possible that a random shower distribution would work like this, so there is obviously something at play here. I have come to the conclusion that an Easterly is not good for snow in my area. During the last decent one in 1991 I lived to the North in Morpeth and got loads of snow, just like they have this time. Needs to be a NE or Northerly for snow here from showers like in 2010.
  6. I am 10 miles from you. Since the 4" from Monday night, I think there has been about another 1" here. Amazing.
  7. Those pics are very impressive. Is that enough to beat 1991 / 2010 yet?
  8. Well the good thing for me will be that i just need to get hit by a few half decent showers and I will have had more that the last couple of days, so still decent chances here I suppose. Just look at the gap I was in overnight
  9. Difficult to judge how much snow there has been here overnight as it's blown around so much. Guessing not much though. Maybe 1cm. So missing any streamer set up like the fantastic one in Northumberland now. Showers look less intense to the South. Temp up from -4.2 last night to -3 now, so I am guessing that's the worse of it over. Although I have been very unlucky compared to other areas as have not had any prolonged periods of showers, it's still been great.
  10. Well thats it for me for the next hour minimum. I am off to bed to catch up on some sleep. Hopefully I will be under a streamer when I get up. Good luck everyone.
  11. Shower here now and just had the most intense winds I have ever seen during snow. Must have been storm force for a time as it was lifting my letter box which is very rare. Looked out and I could only just see the houses over the road. The snow blowing off every surface and swirling around. Very very impressive.
  12. Well off out for a jog with my Daughter. Should be fun
  13. Not so sure yet. The showers are not flowing in the direction of those lines. The are coming in from an Easterly direction.
  14. I was just making that diagram. You beat me to it. I hope they are not in that alignment. Same as last night I and I got a light dusting
  15. Another pic from ploughing in Hepscott (near Morpeth) today. Apparently the road is blocked again, so more ploughing tomorrow
  16. Long shower band about to make landfall by me. After that though there is not a lot happening out at sea
  17. Mine did not turn up and there was only 1cm overnight. Had much more than that today
  18. Current conditions are just amazing. Drifting snow, -4c. Very rare event. I am loving it
  19. How much you got? I thought you would have had 18" up in Amble in 2010
  20. Hey hang on. -3.5c and snow. Whats going on? I thought that was too cold for snow
  21. Just been out. Massive crack of thunder, This is the first decent size shower I have been hit with. Intensity 9/10. Visibility low. Temp dropped rapidly to -3c. And they are starting to line to to take their turn. Get in
  22. The showers have not really stopped all day here, but been very light or very short if heavier. Still waiting for a prolonged shower with blizzard. Things starting to look very good on the radar for Newcastle now. Two big showers incoming looking like it will be a direct hit. Perfect for the rush hour
  23. Hope so, but you never can be sure until the radar shows them incoming
