  1. Well, hate to be a party pooper but, the band seems to be fizzling out on the eastern side
  2. Heavy hail/graupel falling here now, it just developed overhead
  3. Here's an accurate demonstrative map of the UK in the next ice age.......
  4. Considering the outlook, (which is stunning compared to last year) I can't understand why there is a lack of interest this morning? Everything is still very much in place for a good cold spell, the snow detail is a sticking point, but when isn't it? It's a new year tomorrow and we should all go into it trying to be optimistic and forward looking....let's forget this awful year and make the best of what we have :-) Happy New Year Netweather
  5. Well ,just recorded our coldest temperature of the winter so far
  6. We'll be fine. it'll upgrade nearer the time, and we've already had two snow events with the most stupidly marginal dew points and uppers. and next week should be colder. there is no prolonged severe spell in the offing, but a prolonged 'marginal for snowfall' spell. Also we've done much better than last year's ZERO snow
  7. Possibly the most marginal snowfall in history today here. the temperature was 0.6'c and the dewpoint was -0.2'c , we had a brief covering, but melted within an hour of falling, as the temps shot up to almost 3'c . Hope we get better later this week, as things cool down more. We could really do with some decent frosts to cool the ground off, it's far too warm for lying snow around here still. Great to see though, and i'm happier today, and it's also blown last year out of the water regardless of what happens now
  8. Well, it looks like the precipitation is doing a weird dance, which means it'll be difficult to track, although it looks like coming almost due south shortly, before going more south east. I'm fully expecting one of two scenarios...... 1. It misses us. 2. by the time it gets here, the dew points which are on -0.6'c , will have risen and we get rain (unless it's really heavy). Yes, it looks good further out, but I cannot remember a time when we had a large LP overhead, which is stuck there, and we remain bone dry!!?? 'large teapot' I suppose
  9. Look east or north east for the foreseeable. Also a threat of fronts trying to encroach from the south. We all have a dream...anyway
  10. I'm exactly the same, we have two yorkies who have never seen snow. I was gonna film their response to it You cannot make it up for this area. People bang on about how snowy 2010 was ,but here we got a slight dusting whereas every direction just 10 miles away had a foot or more
  11. Looks like the front has stalled and is now pivoting, without getting as far as Coventry. We're so damn unlucky here
  12. Yes, we had the same shower here, but the dew point was 1.5'c ,so it was rain. I'm starting to think tomorrow is a no go for this area, but we've been caught out so many times before that you never know. Fingers crossed and good luck to us matey!!
  13. Some of the best winter snowfalls we've ever had, have been from much more marginal situations....850s of -1'c and dew points of -1.4'c , or so. The next weeks could be amazing. I'd rather live in a daydream of Narnia , it's as near as we got last winter
  14. A decent snowfall here, is any snowfall. Last year we had zero snow. even to see it falling would be amazing
  15. Oh, I loved old bill Farkin, and Crazy Snow Fan from 'Lootons' The atmosphere on that board was almost manic... i loved it
  16. That is a nice GFS run this morning, and it must be on to something as the 0z is usually the party popping hangover model after the 18z pub run's stunner, the night before. One thing seems almost set, we should see some sort of northerly over the Christmas period, but where it goes from there is still up for grabs :-) Fingers crossed everyone!!
  17. There are so many lows and shortwaves flopping about on the latest GFS how can it be expected to model everything correctly even in the short term. It some of the messiest looking charts I've seen in years.
  18. I was wondering whether the possible snow for Friday had evaporated or not, it'd be nice to see at least falling snow after last years debacle. Although it shows something for the south east, these are always 'now cast' situations, so pinches of salt are needed, but it's good to see :-)
  19. I this a famous 'pre cold spell wobble' or is it a garden path? I'm not biting this time. Although it look promising for cold weather, it could never be as bad as last year with zero lying snow and only one observable snow falling spell, which lasted all of 20 minutes. Do your worst weather!!!
  20. Really warm tonight, temperatures in this area at 17'c or 18'c!!!! that's mad!!
  21. yes, generally 8- 10 miles, with the dogs, plus going out on my motorbike because all the roads were clear
  22. not in this part of the Midlands, go 5-10 miles in any direction, and there was a foot or more of lying snow. Here we had 1/2" !! Weather watchers are very familiar with the 'gap' phenomenon, which causes the precipitation to split, got around us and the reform , it's seriously infuriating. In fact the last decent snowfall was the 2 feet overnight on the 9th December 1990, and we've paid for it ever since!
  23. This has got to be a good omen. A snow area in Siberia, almost exactly the same shape as the UK
