Well, there's still no organised polar vortex, and even the parts that are trying to get it together, are over Russia instead.
We could see a greenie high later in this run, otherwise it's high pressure all the way

I think if we have a 4th winter in a row where we don't get snow for more than 1/2 day, i'll give up on weather watching all together.
Is it too much to ask for snow to last on the ground for 2 days now???!!

UK Outlook for Saturday 10 Dec 2016 to Saturday 24 Dec 2016:
After a wet and windy start to this period, high pressure is likely to dominate from mid December, with fairly 'blocked' conditions becoming established across the UK. This weather pattern would lead to drier than average conditions and lighter winds. Interludes of more unsettled weather are expected to be fairly limited, although these could still lead to some snow over high ground in the north. It is likely to be rather a cold period, with temperatures below average for the time of year.
Seems positive, and like the models are barking up the wrong tree, for the time being

The polar vortex at the end of this run, is still very disorganised. I think that really goes to show that 'anything goes' when it comes to the outcome.
Next week at least we have some nice frosts to look forward to! And it's not even winter yet, I'd call that a 'win'

UK Outlook for Wednesday 7 Dec 2016 to Wednesday 21 Dec 2016:
There is considerable uncertainty as we look ahead through this period. The most likely outcome is for drier, more settled conditions to prevail. However, some milder, windy and unsettled weather is likely at times, and as this bumps into the cold air, this would bring the risk of some snow. On balance, despite the potential for incursions of milder weather into the south at times, temperatures will probably average out on the cold side, with further frosts expected.
Sounds like ripe conditions for frontal snow, and maybe a stalling snow event...*sighs*....I can dream, can't I?

What a god awful day!
Been raining here for practically 2 days now, there must be some pretty bad flooding about?
Just about to get another heavy pulse of rain over us. (no doubt there won't be any precipitation when all is right for snowfall)

I've always thought myself that this winter may be more of the 'colder and direr' variety than snowmageddon. If I'm right though it'll be more luck than ability.
Current GFS run has the second low on Monday stronger than before...
Also the ridge in the Atlantic nudging a bit further North into Greenland. Minor differences so far at this stage.
yes, but after the past 3 winters, any snow would be 'snowmageddan' for this area

Another big quake in Italy today. I hope it's not a precursor to a big volcanic eruption or something? Any thoughts?

Bitter cold tonight, it's already 7'c.
I'll go for 1'c or 2'c tonight. Definitely a ground frost.
You can even smell the frost in the air.

The GFS sending a pretty potent northerly plunge into Scotland at the ver ar*e end of FI, it won't verify, but it's nice to see the -5'c 850s back in the UK lol
And to any -5's out there who want to visit from the Arctic, I think I can speak for most people on here in saying that you are very welcome and much missed :-)

Great whacking hail storm, and now it's snowing , heavily!! what the hell is going on with this bloody weather. Do we always have to have snow either side of the season of winter nowadays??!!
-
Huge downpour just went through. It lasted ages due to the slowness of the clouds' movements.
It's nice to get April showers actually in April for once, it's been warm too 16'c!!
I'm a bit miffed that there's going to be a frost on saturday night, it's such a pain at this time of the year

I feel sort of sad for the MOD thread this year.
There must be only two or three people who post on here over the past few weeks, less than ever.
Just goes to show how lacking in true wither weather we've been down south, over the past 3 years.
Fingers crossed we have a thriving MOD thread this winter, and maybe even before that, this summer.
Anyway, just to tell you who still post regularly 'thank you' for your updates, I'm sure I can speak for everyone in stating my gratitude for your enthusiasm, even when the weather is being so bland

Everything is missing here, as per usual.
Even people at work notice how precipitation always seems to break up and go around this area, must be to do with the Birmingham heat island effect or something

This really annoys me. In the postcode forecast it tells me it's going to be -1'c tonight here. Then I play the video on the same page and it's says between -6'c - -7'c!!! So I've just had to go all the way into work to fleece all the bedding plants on my day off!! Why can't the BBC just post the absolute minimum temperature, so folk like me who rely heavily on the weather at this time of the year, can make an informed choice about what to do with thousands of bedding plants overnight?
See for yourselves!

The longer we keep the high, the longer we keep the nice chance of inversions and frost and fog. That's good news for winter loving folk! :-)
