Nocturnal cooling can fire up night time storms if there is a plume of hot upper air (typically a Spanish plume here) condensing as the surrounding air cools and the cap weakens. I doubt this will happen, as there is no real juicy air or widespread Mid level CAPE to fire things off. During the night of 3rd July 2015, there was around 2500-3000j/kg of it, and similar values earlier this year on the hottest day ever. Unfortunately the latter all exploded too far E aswell and only the SE and East Anglia saw the epicness of it.

And then only for about half hour!

    My gut feeling too.

All that worrying folk do when it’s drier than normal then in a blink of an eye the UK is under water with a very wet September.

Thats why I always embrace dry weather living in the UK. Yet more torrential rain falling out there currently.

Not according to Affinity water they send emails out last week warning of water shortages in the spring!

Well that is quite a line of heavy rain and thunder passing overhead right now in Surbiton. I feel sorry for those on the school run as the rain is sporadically torrential and the thunder is every few minutes really crackling through the skies. Lovely to enjoy from the comfort of my home however over a cup of tea ⛈️☕  Seems to have passed through fairly quickly.

You want to see what's behind it. Plenty more!

  4. For the storm phobic the BBC online early warnings of severe storms and online reports have caused chaos this year. They have taken to putting storm symbols for a whole day now even if there is only a slight chance last night there were symbols from about 3 am right up to 3pm today. Not a rumble. They did this no less than about 4 times during the summer and we had nothing. They are showing these warnings up to a week in advance. They never used to do this. The same is showing for tomorrow night and all day Tuesday, though i do think there is something more significant about Tuesday.
