  1. Thanks Quentin

Btw is your Gaffe still ok to be used as a venue for the fabled Uk Spanish Plume in the Summer, Camera's pointed out towards the English Channel and all that......Lol only joking :whistling:

We shall see about the Arizona Trip I guess, can get Paul to update the Netweather Facebook Page to see if there is any interest from there I suppose.

    Cheers

    Paul S

Paul, yep, any signs of a decent Spanish Plume my place is open for you no probs, even got a single bed if you need to stop-over.

Like the idea of Paul trying to gather another few interested folks, I think it's a great opportunity to see storms in their natural habitat, but the scenery down there is awesome, much better than the plains.

  2. Well that is good news that we have Interest in the Arizona Lightning/Monsoon Chasing. What do you say if we get another 2 people (5 In An SUV) I try to price it up, we would need a Minimum of 5 People for this.

It is slightly different to Tornado Chasing in that we use a Base Hotel for the consecutive 10 days in Scottsdale and travel either North (Flagstaff) Or East (New Mexico Border) or South (Tuscon) and get back to the Hotel each night or after the Lightning finishes. Some of the Scenery out there is Mind Blowing as well with Flaggy at 7,000ft above Sea Level.

We still use the GPS & Barons which picks out the more Severe Desert Storms and possible Haboobs

    Regards

    Paul S

Surely we can find 2 more interested folks to make this a "go" for next year?

Got to be a good stab as something different and as Paul says the scenery is just somethin' else.

It ain't tornado's but it's sure a damn good opportunity to catch some good lightning storms and great scenery. 8)

    Check out the opportunity at:

    Lightning Lady

  3. Certainly not cold enough for any white precip down along the coastal fringe for the forseeable future, even though next week see's a return to more traditional figures for Jan.

I think we will have to wait until Feb to see anything in the line of white stuff, even then as the days grow longer it suggests with Feb being sometimes the best snow month, the period for snow on the ground decreases.

  4. Mornin' All, currently:

    Temp 11.0°C

    DP 10.5°C

    RH 97%

    Wind 12.7mph SSW

    Rainfall 1.5mm

    1010.1mb STEADY

Conditions: Soggy, overcast, mizzle, breezy. Even the weather station has given up by the look of it, humidity temps are all straight lining!

  5. Supercell

Sounds like the most sensible plan. Although I would say that having booked an evening return flight lol.

I say drop Pat at a local truck stop.

I bet some nice driver would be prepared to take him all the way (back to the airport that is):whistling:

  6. core punching!

better one later with hail denting the car..must of been softball size

towards the end Paul gets done for speeding

cant remember where it was..But it the last chase day for T3

Oh I'm sure Iam M. or Paul S. still have copies of the paperwork, they will be able to tell us where.

I think we should start a slush fund for the Tyson Darling brigade in prep for this years Cannonball run :whistling:

Chasing storms does appear to generate interest with the local constabulary

I'm prepared to start it off with a tenner

If at the end of the tour it's not used I'll spend it wisely on a beer at the airport.

Disclaimer: This storm chaser neither approves nor condones the use of excessive speed in chasing storms.

However should a storm be missed through the inappropriate lack of speed, this storm chaser for one will be well p*ssed.

  7. Anyone see in the Press today that it is looking highly Likely that BA Are going to Strike for the Royal Wedding, Some dates I have seen are 28-30th April :wallbash::cray:

They will still Fly the Major Routes - LHR-DFW being one of them, but On Board services may be pretty sketchy

    Paul S

Paul, checking the Press the Union stated "....and pledged not to call a walkout to disrupt April’s royal wedding."

  8. Quentin knows Im pulling his leg as he does with me.

I wish every one the best truly...BUT F5 for my tour...cant get fairer than that :air_kiss:

who ever the Gods favour :drinks:

Quentin you have a new camera?

anyone else got any thing new?

I havent, but could do with a new laptop...but will have to wait

Aye commander Timmer, I purchased a Panasonic SD600, was going for the SD700 but thought better of it as some of the things that can do I would never ever use. Still good for 50frames/second :good:

So some good timelapse is the order of the day this year.

Only downside is they absolutely chew memory with it at full wack a 16Gb card will last a mere 1hour 20mins :nea:

All this talk is making me, go hunt my gear bag down and start the trip shakedown, to make sure I've got all the cables, cards lenses everything tried tested and ready to perform.

Got to get going before Paul hits the 100day klaxon

  9. I bought myself a new camera, its a slr type point n shoot , but a good one! ... The New Lumix Fz-100 ( With full HD Recording ) :80:. Can take up to 11 shots per second at full quality (14mp :D )

    Tempted to get a labtop...should i??????????????????? :)

For those only using the laptop to hold all their data from the cameras, there's a great alternative and cheaper than a PC.

    Check out: http://www.cbadigital.co.uk/photobank.htm

I bought one of these, they are good, very good. They are fast, and when you get back home you can use them as extra PC storage if needed. And they have support being a British organisation.

Can well recommend for those taking lots of shots, just like "Pat (the) Lightning Timmer" when he's in burst mode

Certainly cuts down on the anount of camera cards you need to buy and carry.

  10. For lovers of reality shows here's the classic comment from Josh Wurman

Let me go on to specifics concerning the true reality of events in spring 2010:

    1. VORTEX2 and I did not, and could not have, imposed any restrictions on any other person or group. Specifically VORTEX2 and I did not, and could not have, imposed a “75 mile limit†on Sean Casey or his TIV team, or compelled them to stop chasing or intercepting tornadoes, or even to drive more safely or conservatively.

    2. VORTEX2 and I did not fund or control any funding for “Storm Chasersâ€, the TIV or the IMAX film. We certainly did not control any “purse stringsâ€.

Damn who said make believe only exists in people own minds?

  11. God I forgot about Captain Darling - He was a right Jobsworth wasn't he.

Don't worry Quentin, if the Models are showing big Outbreaks at the Start of May I expect you to be on this thread rubbing Pat's Nose in It.

Little Stat for Early May nd remember 2005 & 2006 were classed as 2 of the worst years for chasing since the even larger teapot

    2005 : Chases on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 9th and 10th May

    2006 : Chases on the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 9th May

    2007 : Chases on the 1st, 4th (Greensburg EF5) 5th (High Risk) 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th

    2008 : Chases on the 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th May (Stuttgart EF3)

    2009 : Chases on the 29th April, 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th May

    2010 : Chases on the 29th April, 1st, 2nd, 6th May

Plenty there for Early May and even the Barren years of 2005, 2006 and 2009 Yielded

    Paul S

    1ST MAY LOOKS GOOD FOR 2011 :shok::rofl:

Paul, if it all turns good, I'll rub more than "Pat Lightning Timmer's nose" in it.

Armed with a new High Def video cam, watch out Mr PLT your time has come :drunk:

PS Some nice 2010 info on the outbreaks can be found here. good reading for the past years analysis

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/tornadoes/2010

  12. In my opinion (and I'm no pro) I think last year early May was unusually quiet for tornadoes. We all remember the May 4th 1999 tornado I'm sure.

Also I think early season is good for fewer but stronger longer track tornados and the later in the season you get they are more frequent but more brief. I read that somewhere but can't remember where. Also the early season is 'usually' more south (texas/oklahoma) and as you get to late may june moves north into the Dakotas.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong as I'm still learning.

    Jo

    -x-

It was noticeable even with "Pat Lightning Timmer" on T3 last year, he failed to suck out more than one touchdown. And yet in T2, he blew everybody away with his powers.

Certainly no complaints on storm generation from last year, and the navigation of the team to get us where we needed to be even though Tyson Darling was keen to see otherwise :diablo:

  13. OK ENOUGH I've not paid for the trip and all youz guys are sucking the tornado's out of my trip before I go.

Now ENOUGH of this "It'll happen in Tour 2 -3 -4 ", IF it does I'm demanding a huge cost reduction.

Come on guys for me even 100% improvement on last year's touch downs means just 2 tornado's for T1 :D

"Hey buddy can you spare me a dime tornado :whistling:

  14. classic post

Oh Pat, do treat him gently, remember punishment is sitting on the front fender looking out for the smokies like Tyson

And the idea of initiation of leaving him in a field close to a touchdown or being pounded by 1" hail should not be entertained (until at least day 6!) :help::clap::yahoo:

  15. Not flying back until the 11th May, just need to collect a car from the car hire area on the 10th before they close.

U.S. scientists say La Niña-controlled weather patterns have the potential to produce more severe storms, as those recently seen in the Midwest and South.

La Nina facilitates large tornadic outbreaks and produces more devastating tornadoes"

Oh goodie, that means more than one touch down this year then, yip yip yip

  16. I just want to say hi to any other tour 2 guests and techie staff later this year.

I have a new camera ready and waiting -a canon 550d. Is there some kind of photosensitive detection device that can be used to trigger lightning shots does anyone know?

    Cheers.

    Really looking forward to it.

    Ed

On the lightning trigger there's a couple of units around.

The one I use is from, it is expensive however:

    http://www.lightningtrigger.com/

Another is available and is cheaper, don't know how well it performs:

    http://www.pmgadgets.com/#

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.

Very useful gadget in daylight storms.

  17. As promised. Grabed this off me Sky plus box. Steward Robinson talking about storm chasing on de telly in Ireland.

I think Stu did well in the interview, given those present it could have been a riot.

He's clearly not booked on to tour 1, and the departing BA flight that seems to be a mass take over by all accounts!
