  1. How am I the only person to not have this really heavy snow sad.png just moderate for me. sorry.gif

I think by looking at the radar it hit the centre and just to the west of Leicester! Very intense!

You must have been on the bottom edge of the heavy part. It was very localized, Countesthorpe is about 8 miles South of Leicester isn't it? The main heavyness was over Leicester City itself.

Lesta Snow... It's coming down quite fast again! It went really light a minute ago but now it's started up again laugh.png

I love this haha! Unexpected snowfall and the fact it's this heavy!

  2. Can't believe how jammy we were with that heavy shower. According to the Net Weather radar, the heavy blob that came over Leicester was only around 6-8 miles wide and gave us a direct hit! Just nipped up the shop and the road is covered now, it was soaked earlier. Looks to be a fresh 2cm just from that shower. Could be a bit more lighter stuff coming over the next hour or 2, fingers crossed!

I can't believe it either! If we had that quality for over 12 hours haha! I don't think anybody would be leaving the house!

1.5cm i just measured haha! in the space of 45 minutes! hopefully light stuff for the next 1-2 hours could have a nice unexpected 3cm!

  3. I have to say I have been impressed with the memos forecast of snow over this period, but their tempature forecasts have not been great, still 0.3 here and rising.

Why is it not dropping below freezing, what would complete this cold spell would be really low temps, but it is just not happening.

The snow seems to be melting at the road surface and as soon as a car goes over it, it as completely gone.

That's so odd, i'm right in the centre of leicester and theres no melt, roads are covered with probably around 2-3cm compact snow! what a difference just a few miles makes!!

  4. UK Outlook for Thursday 24 Jan 2013 to Saturday 2 Feb 2013:

Many regions are likely to become dry and more settled for a time later next week. However, cloudier conditions with spells of rain, sleet and snow may develop over some western parts towards the end of next week and into the weekend. It will be cold for late January, with hard overnight frosts, widespread ice and freezing fog patches where winds fall light, these slow to clear from some areas. Some areas still cold through next weekend, but during the following week conditions will probably turn both more unsettled and less cold from the west, as Atlantic weather systems push into the UK. This change to more unsettled conditions is likely to be accompanied by spells of snow in some areas.

From what I remember this is quiet different from what they were saying yesterday!

  5. BBC gets their information direct from the Met - but many of these forecasts are prerecorded. Even the live forecasts are going off slightly outdated models- as it takes hours after a model update for them to compose and deliver their forecast.

I hope I explained that well enough.

I'd fancy us to be at or around the 10cm mark for fresh snow by this time tomorrow.

Yeah I understand! I guess it's for the public though, many people I know were moaning about the forecast's because they'd watched it an said there was going to be a maximum of 5cm for leicester on friday but there was double, which was shown on the model updates but for some bizzarre reason they don't even update on the forecast! and even when 7cm have fallen they are still saying 5cm max haha. Just wish they'd do more updates when the weather is going to be as severe as this.
