  1. Spent five hours ambling around the Lomonds today. Up over East Lomond, around the forests on the Falkland Estate, through Craigmead and down to Ballo and then home. Easily one of the most memorable snowy walks I've had by virtue of the facts that a) there's over a foot of lying snow on the ground, b- the forest trees are soooooo heavy with snow that everything is absurdly picturesque, and c) the snowshoes went on and came off at the front door.

    Amazing!

    Historically I've always headed for the high open spaces when there's a big dump of snow, but walking through the forests today was spine-tinglingly beautiful. Utterly still with no sounds other than the occasional slide of snow off the pines. It was like snowshoeing through the Canadian back-country.

    Access, though always good, was easier than usual 'cause you could just step over dykes and fences that are usually too high. Wonderful smile.png
