  1. Another 4cm overnight here taking the total to 17cm. Winds have fallen lighter so drifting isn’t as bad as it was in the night, but only the major roads are passable this morning.
  2. Farmer friend of mine has had to rescue 4 cars stuck in drifts tonight in East Suffolk. He's just got back home and there's reports of another one stuck. Could be a long night.
  3. The problem is compounded by the fact it's been a Sunday during lockdown. The roads just aren't getting the traffic on them to turn the salt to a saline solution. It's near on useless gritting when there's no traffic.
  4. Haha, that's going to be a fun 87 point turn to get it pointing back down the hill. He was lucky to not hit anything there. Bet his backside was like a rabbit's nose though
  5. You guys will go mad if you try and follow every streamer tonight as it comes and goes. It's just pot luck.....could be some nice surprises for some when the open the curtains tomorrow morning.
  6. Not sure, but can't be that high as I remember during the beast from the east the radar was picking up blowing snow when nothing was falling
  7. Really different feel to things out there now. We have 11cm of snow laying, -2C, powder snow falling and wind has picked up. I've just done a 5 mile journey from my parents (within Covid rules before anyone says anything) and I only just made it back. Drifting is getting quite bad here and the Amber warnings are very much warranted now in this part of the world.
  8. Latest MetOffice forecast is mentioning Severe frosts from tomorrow night. That's between -6.6C and -11.5C by the official definition. Certainly looks plausable over the snow fields.
  9. 8cm here now. -0.8C and very slowly falling. Still snowing lightly
  10. It runs from Debenham through to Woodbridge following the river Deben. I’m near Framlingham
  11. Finally some westward movement on that band of heavier precipitation over the coast it was seem.....very slowly though but could improve things early afternoon here. We'll see.
  12. Looking very wintery here in East Suffolk. Switching between light and moderate snow. Temp -0.1C Hopeful the snow may intensify a bit later IMG_3113.MOV
  13. Great to hear as I'm not too far from you (near Framlingham). It's certainly looking wintery out there now; much better than it looked when I woke up at 5.30am!
  14. Quickly improving picture here in East Suffolk. Now 0.1C, wind is getting stronger, snow has got a bit heavier, and now readily settling. Radar picture also improving. For anyone despondant about the situation this morning, I would suggest catching up with the BBC forecast on BBC Breakfast. Confimation that things are expected to turn to snow more widely and also lots of talk about showers leading to good accumulations tomorrow, perhaps well inland too.
  15. Hi Paul. Why do you say Essex and Suffolk on the no snow list? Snowing in Suffolk and 0.6C now (down from 1.0C at 5.30am). Radar also now starting to show some heavier precip appearing off the coast of Suffolk and Essex. Not still all to play for?
  16. Snowing in East Suffolk (no real elevation) and 1.0C. Obviously not laying. I woke up and looked at the radar and thought precipitation was going to be the issue, not temperature! Actually surprised how heavy it is compared to what the radar shows
  17. Sounds like a line from the alternative version of Pride and Prejudice
  18. That's cumulative position by 1900 tomorrow, ie everything that's fallen before.
  19. Even though i'm in one of the sweet spots, slap bang in the middle of the amber warning area, I have a horrible feeling that most of the snow is going to end up further east and south and be a Kent/Essex only affair tomorrow. Call me pessimistic but have been disappointed too many times before. A very interesting week coming up. With winds falling lighter towards the end of the week and deep cold well entrenched, we are going to see some severe overnight frosts over those areas with good snow cover.
  20. Not necessarily. In 2018 our village was cut off for 4 days. If someone had had a medical emergency there’s no ambulances getting through. That’s a danger to life. Also think about home help etc. Luckily we’re a small community and looked out for the elderly in that spell
  21. I wonder if the strength of the wind in the extreme east is also a factor. 50mph gusts can cause significant drifting which makes things so much more difficult for transport.
  22. Thanks. That would surpass the minima we had here in 2010, in fact it could be the coldest I've recorded in my 20 years of recording weather.
  23. Intrigued to see how low the night time minima could be over East Anglia during next week. With good snow cover I'm hoping minus double figures isn't out of the question? Glad I filled up on heating oil last week!
