  1. There's some good looking showers in North Norfolk heading your way. I wouldn't despair too much just yet.
  2. I'm just a few miles North of you. I wouldn't take much notice of the apps, they are taken directly from data provided by one model and won't be accurate regarding precipitation. Anything north of an easterly is best for us. Some of us could do VERY well next week but as always, others may not....all boils down to luck. The best advice I can give is get the Netweather radar and keep an eye from Sunday evening onwards.
  3. Ribena! Hot Ribena is THE drink for a cold snowy day ...... well as far as non-alcoholic goes anyway
  4. The uppers would certainly be conductive of those sorts of temperatures in December/January. Now the days are getting longer I imagine we will struggle to get that low, bit with some deep snow cover and if winds fall light I can see -12C to -14C being achievable.
  5. Yes indeed. The best analogy I've heard is imagine the cold air is syrup on a plate. Try washing that plate by running warm water over the top. The thick syrup clings on and only slowly erodes away.
  6. Have just been looking at this looking at winters gone by in Suffolk, some good photos. http://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/days-gone-by-do-you-remember-when-heavy-snow-fall-brought-ipswich-to-a-standstill-1-4830928
  7. Sorry to disappoint but it shows about 102mm of snow in total...about 10cm. The metcheck site shows snow accumulations in pink, and rain in blue.
  8. For anyone who hasn't seen this, I highly recommend you have a watch! Now we know what some of the BBC forecasters are really thinking! https://weathertrending.com/2018/02/20/bitter-quickchat-next-weeks-extreme-cold/
  9. The MetOffice and Meteogroup are both service providers. Just like any other service provider they have to bid for the contract. Meteogroup undercut the MetOffice and hence why they now provide the BBC with the forecasts and data for both the TV forecasts and that on the website/Apps. The BBC will only distribute the information that is given to them! I don't know much about MeteoGroup, but the MetOffice have some of the best forecasters in the world, so I will continue to refer to their website.
  10. Now Meteogroup have the contract for providing data for BBC forecasts, I wonder if the quality of forecasting will change? Look east forecast and that on the website look totally wrong going by what the models are showing currently.
  11. Can confirm we have snow falling here. Half of what fell today has melted so hopefully everything will be white again tomorrow
  12. That shower is getting pretty big and heavier. About 15/20 minuted from me now. It's 1.4C with a Dew point of 1C......had heavy snow this afternoon with higher than that so fingers crossed!
  13. Frosty when I left home in Suffolk this morning, temperature -0.6C, then a sprinkling of snow on the verges as I travelled south down the M11. A dusting of snow on the ground and gently snowing now I'm at work in Stansted. It's not even December yet!
  14. The first tropical storm in the series this year was Arlene. MetOffice storm names for this year are: Aileen Brian Caroline Dylan Eleanor Fionn Georgina Hector Iona James Karen Larry Maeve Niall Octavia Paul Rebecca Simon Tali Victor Winifred Interesting to see the MO has issued an Amber Warning this morning. Seeing as trees are in full leaf I can understand why with the winds that are forecast.
  15. West of Ft Myers is Sanibel and Captiva islands.....I have visited there every year for many years (last there in March). It's like no other place in the US, no big franchises, bikes have priority over cars, and over half of it is nature reserve. Much of it is only just above sea level. I fear that its going to be almost wiped off the map.
  16. BBC News website now reporting "The four "most solid" buildings on the island of Saint Martin have been destroyed, French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb announced." That doesn't sound good at all!
  17. Most probably, looks as if Downham Market now getting in on the action, heading on to King's Lynn.
  18. Pokey little cell just fired up south of Bristol out of nowhere! I can hear the thunder from the storm currently over Stansted! Can see the odd flash too. It's a hour and a quarter drive from me!
  19. Just had a storm develop directly overhead and then rumble away to my east. I could see the scud overhead going east to west as the shower came west to east, 10 minutes later, boom. Very muggy now, waiting from the showers to my west to electrify...fingers crossed
  20. At last! Things now starting to fire up south west of Cambridge.
  21. Well that decent storm has just gone straight over my house, with radar returns of about 200mm/hr. Unfortunately I'm at work in Ipswich and can only see black clouds in the distance and hear the odd faint rumble
  22. I'm about 12 miles south of Diss, have seen a few flashes in that directions and my strike alert has picked up a couple too.
