  1. Heavy cold rain here....sideways. Only 2.8C. The dogs don't look any more enthusiastic about going for a walk than I do! Chance of seeing anything white falling from the sky in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex comes tonight with a few fleeting showers and this pesky warm sector out of the way.
  2. I wouldn't be so sure. The storm that passed through the Chanel to the south of Kent started to the west of Le Havre, and missed mainland UK completely. This one is in the same place roughly, so wouldn't be surprised to see it take the same track. Run the radar loop back over the past 2 to 3 hours, it's all circling that flabby low to the south. Hope i'm wrong of course!
  3. August Bank Holiday 2013 was very warm, if not hot! The only reason I remember it so well is that I had my new car hit into on the way back from the beach. I had only had it a day and a dosy twonk on his mobile rear ended me. I sat out waiting for the AA to recover my car for 3 hours and got sunburnt.
  4. That's some strange lightning if you heard the bang before you saw the flash!
  5. Been absolutely pouring here for the past couple of hours. Total currently at 18.2mm. Look East showed parts of Suffolk having 50mm tonight. If that materialises it will be the highest 24hour total I have recorded in my 12 years of weather records. Not good for harvest. Luckily we harvested our Oil Seed Rape on Wednesday evening, but there are plenty of others who haven't even started on their Barley yet, and have Wheat to harvest over the next few weeks. At least the ground dries out quickly this time of year, especially as we've had a dry Spring and Summer so far.
  6. What a fantastic night! The sky started flickering at about midnight, the storm passed directly overhead about 2am and I have just come back from chasing it north. It's still flasing away in the distance now. An incredible light show! I've seen many storms in Florida and the lightning this one created far surpassed anything i've seen there. I noticed a strong smell of burning a few miles up the road, I just hope it was a tree that was struck and not somebody's home!!
  7. Temperature and humidity really rising noticeable outside now. I'm still well north of all of the storms, but the sky is flashing like a dodgy fluorescent bulb and I can hear rumbles in the distance.
  8. Lights flickering here a few times, and I'm still a good distance from the storms at the moment!
  9. More 'embryo' cells firing up just south of Kent. This could be a very long night! Fantastic reports coming in relatively early in the night. I wonder how many people are still going to be online at 3am!?!
  10. Some development now over east and mainland kent, all boding well for East Anglia later
  11. Londoners are going to be happy in the next hour or two, that cell to the south has grown from nothing to producing its first lightning strike in just 15 minutes!
  12. Cell popped up out of nowhere north of Brighton....building quickly.......going to be a few fun hours of radar watching!
  13. Yep, I made the same mistake. 22.6C here now, after a peak of 25.9C earlier, i'm not a great distance from the coast as the crow flies so the onshore wind has kept temperatures comfortable.
  14. Already 20.3C here, clear blue sky and sunshine already feeling strong. The latest MetOffice East of England forecast is fantastic. Carlsberg don't make summer forecasts, but if they did..... Regional forecast for East of England Dry, sunny and very warm. Today:Dry with long periods of strong sunshine. Generally becoming very warm, but it will be cooler along the coast due to the southeasterly breeze, which gradually strengthens. Maximum Temperature 27°C. Tonight:Staying breezy, particularly along the coast, and also dry. Despite the long clear periods it will remain warm or very warm. Minimum Temperature 16°C. Wednesday:Breezy, especially along the coast, and also becoming very warm or hot. Staying dry, with long periods of strong sunshine. Maximum Temperature 29°C. Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:Chance of thunderstorms Thursday, and especially Friday night when they could become locally severe. Temperatures generally warm or very warm, locally hot Thursday. Saturday drier and fresher conditions arrive. Updated at: 0452 on Tue 30 Jun 2015
  15. Just did a mini storm chase to follow the storm that has just crossed Suffolk. Followed it up the A140, only 1 or 2 strikes a minute but there were some beautiful forks and very deep and loud booms. Some flooding also on the A140 in places. It's certainly dampened the ground down nicely! Currently 16.1C here.
  16. Just heard a nice deep ruble here in Suffolk. Guessing it's the one over Ipswich at the moment.
  17. By using the rainfall radar. I use the premium NetWeather one as it is the most detailed and updates every 5 minutes. Small but heavy areas of precipitation are what you need to look for.
  18. Cells south of London forming well now. This could work quite well for London in the next hour.
  19. Here we go. The very start of some cells now forming over Southern England and also Essex
  20. New cells popping up east of the main one south of Kent now. Things look good in Kent in the next hour, and those new cells, if they continue to build, will make things exciting for Essex and eventually Suffolk and Norfolk later
  21. Still 22.8C here. It's been wall to wall sunshine all day, just turning hazy now but still very bright all the same. Interesting to see the cell leaving France now heading for east Kent. It will be interesting to see how it lasts over the next hour as it crosses the channel. At the moment it doesn't seem to be having much effect as it's now just moving out over the Chanel but it's still building. Very bright echoes showing on the latest radar returns so possibly hail core? Lots of Sfrerics from it. Areas such as Canterbury should be hearing thunder within the next hour if it continues the way it is currently.
  22. Constant rolling thunder to my south. Very close feeling to the air, reminds me of Florida, it even has the same smell.....let's hope we get similar storms!
  23. Apologies, it was not meant to come across like that - I'm expecting (and hoping) to learn a lot by attending. I'm not a habitual speeder and this is my first ever time in all of my years of driving. What I meant was that I was frustrated that of all of the days I could have chosen to attend I chose tomorrow.
  24. For once I'm in one of the best locations for storms tomorrow, pity I'm stuck in a speed awareness course until lunchtime It's been a good number of years since I've seen a decent storm here. I'm not getting my hopes up too much though, as I know how these plume situations can change last minute. Looking further ahead the MO monthly forecast and other seasonal forecasts i've seen (such as TWO's) point towards a warm June with thundery outbreaks.
  25. Ice grains been blowing around in the wind here for the past hour. Temp -0.8C Looks like some showers are starting to pep up now in east Norfolk, so some of Suffolk may be lucky later tonight. I have work early tomorrow, so I'm not staying up.
