  1. Unbelievable storm gone through here in the past hour! Constant rumbling thunder like I've never heard before. Went for a drive in the 4x4 to get in the path of the worst of the storm. Huge amount of rain in a short period (nearly 2 inches in an hour in Framlingham). Roads are flooded everywhere, lots of cars caught out. Crazy!
  2. I'm at Santa Pod raceway all weekend....could be more than just the drag cars making explosions!
  3. Bit puzzled by the MetOffice weather warning. It contradicts the BBC forecast and the forecasts on their website, they only show light and patchy rain. Saying that, looks to be some heavy rain over the near continent.
  4. I saw all of this too! I was working in Norwich today (next to the bus station). The rotation was very strong, and there was a huge amount of skud cloud. As you say, cloud moving in all directions. I saw the police helicopter hovering for quite some time overhead. Not sure it was looking at the storm, there was quite a large police presence walking about so guess they were looking for someone in the city centre. To be honest i was quite surprised to see it flying in those conditions! I also noticed that raindrops were incredibly large (sign of high cloud tops?). I wish I could have got a better view, for a moment I thought i could see the formation of a funnel but the amount of buildings in the way and my work kept me getting a better look.
  5. Moderate rain of only about 2mm/hr with the odd heavy burst at 10mm/hr. Not usually a problem but with it going on for so long the totals just keep going up! The Deben wasn't all that high this evening but if this keeps going for another 5 or 6 hours as forecast then there will be a lot of water about tomorrow. Doesn't bode well for the Suffolk show either! Take your wellies/waders!
  6. Yep, totals forecast weren't far off the mark either. Suffolk had even more rain... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-27585520
  7. Pretty wet overnight in Suffolk. I recorded 15mm but 10 miles further south over Ipswich they recorded over an inch. A12 flooded near Woodbridge. MetOffice have now updated their warning for the rest of today, could be another inch of rain on the way. Certainly pouring in Great Yarmouth (work) at the moment.
  8. BBC were hinting that it looks worse for North Norfolk and East Midlands now than it does for Suffolk and the majority of Norfolk. As lassie23 said, looking pretty damp or even wet for most of the week. Still, it's to be expected; it's the Suffolk Show this week (it's years since there's been a dry/warm one!!)
  9. I happened in May 2012, (the 2nd I think). An easterly wind where the storms popped up about 20 miles off the coast then continued to strengthen until they got 50 or so miles inland. We had nearly 40mm of rain that night and some of the worst flooding in the village for years. The local bus came a cropper.... http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2012-05-03/bus-passengers-stranded-in-flood/
  10. Convection kicking off further east now. Heavy shower just popped up out of nowhere in NE London and another just west of Chelmsford. Radar will be looking pretty crazy by 3pm!
  11. Well make sure you stand downwind in that case....don't want to smell you!
  12. You're in a prime spot! Should all go crazy for you in the next 20 minutes/half an hour. Looking at the radar returns I'm guessing that may be a hail core, although the Netweather Precip. Type feature doesn't show it as such.
  13. If you read it, it's unlikely they will be: "Scattered locally heavy showers, with the risk of some slow-moving thundery downpours, are likely this afternoon into this evening. Although the heavy showers should slowly die out this evening they may well continue in parts of southwest England into Thursday night. The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding. This warning has been updated to remove the warning from southeastern areas where showers are less likely to have any impacts"
  14. You are in the best spot for the next hour or so in my opinion. Most lightning activity seems to be on the eastern side of the storm, which is on a direct path for Poole!
  15. Anyone heading out of Cherbourg on the ferry at the moment should be getting one hell of a display!
  16. Well the Met got the torrential downpours bit right!! For the past half an hour we just had rain over 30mm/hr and regularly over 100mm/hr. Haven't seen rain like it in years. Leaves stripped off trees, the roads are like rivers and I fear much of the barley will now be flattened as the heads are starting to get heavy. The rain was much heavier than the radar suggests! Rainband over the east now also looks to be intensifying strongly over Norfolk.
  17. Anyone under the heavy rain over Suffolk right now. For the past 20 minutes we just had rain averaging 30mm/hr and over 100mm/hr at many points. Heaviest rain I've seen in years!! Roads like rivers and surface water flooding everywhere.
  18. You may be lucky. BBC forecast showed it becoming thundery once it left East Anglia and into Lincolnshire. I think it's more a case of nowcasting.
  19. Heard one distant rumble about 9pm, nothing since. Just got heavy rain now which is watering my lawn fertiliser in a treat!
  20. Radar seems to be telling Porkys. Currently showing moderate rain over Great Yarmouth but there's not a drop falling. Evaporation maybe? Seen it many a time during these situations.
  21. Better than any lightning I saw all last summer! Very strong squall as well! Gust of 64mph here.
  22. Not sure you have the track exactly right with that image. I can't see the bulk of the rain getting much further north than mid Essex.....may be wrong though. My part of the world is yet to see much in the way of rain! The river in my village hasn't over topped yet, and it usually does now at least half a dozen times a year.
