  1. Not enough rain for Eastern Counties on those charts. We need at least an inch of rain here in Suffolk after it's been so dry.
  2. Another week gone without a drop of rain, and it doesn't look like anything will come until next weekend at the earliest, and that doesn't look significant. Everything is so dry at the moment, following 6 months drier than average. Hosepipe bans this summer?
  3. Heavy snow here in mid Suffolk.Turning into a proper winter wonderland. A couple of cm accumulated and the temp has been pulled down, now 0.7C, wind westerly at 18mph average, gusting 25mph. Looks like it may clear Norfolk/Suffolk in the next hour. The temperature will inevitably rise and it will be slush late this afternoon Good to see though
  4. Some quite heavy snow for a time just north of Ipswich. I'm now in Ipswich and the snow has now stopped here, but a dusting on everything. Was settling on minor routes as I drive in. Just hoping the next band gets here soon before temperatures rise too much!
  5. Yes it's on the coast. Winds in the Southern North Sea aent that strong at the moment, so would have thought that is the cause (although it may well be a problem come tomorrow!) To be honest, in Jaywick, flooding will probably result in £100 worth of improvements.
  6. New Warning out for Friday from the MetOffice Issued at: 13:28 on Tue 10 Jan 2017 Valid from: 00:05 on Fri 13 Jan 2017 Valid to: 23:55 on Fri 13 Jan 2017 Further showers of snow, sleet and hail will continue across parts of the UK. 2 to 4 cm of snow may affect some lowland areas, while high ground may see locally 5 to 10 cm. Disruption to transport networks seems likely either due to snow or ice. Additionally, strong winds and large waves will affect some eastern coastal areas. A cold northerly airstream will keep the risk of wintry weather going through Friday. Some inland areas, sheltered from the northerly wind, seem likely to escape most of the showers.
  7. On my farm it will make the difference of about £3000 whether we get much rain or not in the next week....so it matters to me, and many other farmers/growers.
  8. Feel free to send it this way. I need all the rain I can get.....it's been too dry too long now.
  9. Amazing storm here about 7pm, one of the best i've seen in this country. Strong winds, marble size hail and proper torrential rain (registered over 150mm/hr on my Davis). The thunder was constant and some of it was directly overhead and shook the house. Temp dropped from 28.5C to 19C in about 15 minutes. Cleared the air a bit for sleeping this evening.
  10. Lots of heavy rain at the moment....not much in the way of electrical activity....yet
  11. According to William that is Kent. Sorry William....couldn't resist. I do get what you were trying to get at.
  12. New cells firing up just east of Brest now. I'm now trying to make a decision. Go to sleep now and get up at 3.30/4am. Or hang on until gone midnight and get up at 7am. Work is going to be a struggle tomorrow.....an then comes round 2 tomorrow night!
  13. Looking at the radar it looks like you took a direct hit. Radar shows rain rates of 150mm/hr over Gosport. Any hail?
  14. Can see that storm out toward Belgium from me. Beautiful sky tonight. Photos taken looking South East about 9.30.
  15. Anyone come across this on Metcheck before? http://www.metcheck.com/SEASONAL/thunderstorm_satellite.asp It claims to show where storms are developing/decaying by looking at cloud top temperatures and vertical velocity.
  16. Measured 31.4mm at my location last night, but 5 miles to the west of me where I have some land, my rain gauge measured 51mm! Wettest 24 hour period here in a very long time! Lots of standing water this morning but the ground is still quite firm as it has been so dry here this spring.
  17. One or two bright flashes per minute here, and loud, deep, rolling rumbles here. Rain is hammering down and the wind is getting up more. A proper stormy night here now.
  18. Starting to spit with rain here now, wind really picking up. Can confirm that I saw a big flash just north of me (over land). Showing up as a strike on the blitzortung site, but not on Netweather radar.
  19. The night of 2/3 May 2014 we had storms from the East, one after another. Still the highest rainfall in 24 hour period I have ever recorded here at 42mm. From memory the thunderstorms last from around 9pm to midnight, then we had almost constant heavy rain for 4 or 5 hours.
  20. Colder that I was expecting tonight. Already down to -2.6C, good frost on everything already.
  21. I would hardly call Bury St Edmunds coastal! I'm over 15 miles east of Bury St Edmunds and it's been snowing here in the past hour. Now 0.5C and the next shower incoming. Looks like the showers are going to fade a bit soon before picking up again after midnight. Anyone east of a line very roughly from Kings Lynn to Brighton I would say has a chance between now and tomorrow morning of seeing at least something.
  22. Currently snowing here, 0.8C. Was about a 5/6 on the Murr scale, back down to a 3 now. Dusting on grass and cars. Could be icy tomorrow! Edit: 0.4C now, so the next shower which is building about 30 miles upwind should hopefully result in a bit more laying snow!
  23. Temp is currently 1.1C here and falling, and the showers are about 10/15 miles north of me.......the suspense!
  24. There was some very heavy snow in Ipswich this evening....it was hell to drive out, gridlock! 1.5C when I left Ipswich, but 0C when I got home and a nice dusting and slushyness on the roads (about 10 miles NW of Ipswich). Proper blizzard conditions out there at times, the wind is really howling now!
