Would anyone like to offer a forecast for the likelihood of lying snow through the Highlands tomorrow, and at what altitude we might see it lying through the day? (Just wondering about having a duvet day...)
Looking pretty good for the Highlands, especially with elevation above 200m, same would apply for the Ochills I guess maybe a tad more elevation need due to being slighter further South. Drove back from Braemar yesterday and the snow covered hills of Scotland (Ochills/Trossachs etc) really are stunning!

You dont have much luck vizzy do you.. Cheers for the pic though, glad you saw some snow!
Id have thought front edge snow is possible today but as PIT says, forecast isnt up to much. Just says possible sleet at first
Haha no need to feel sorry for me, although its nice to have snow at home I've spent the last few days in Braemar and the Cairngorms hiking in a thick blanket of snow!

Coldest night of the season with bone chilling low of -1.5c. Yesterday's system reminded me of last years boxing days event, last year I was too far North, this year I just missed out to the South. Drove back from Scotland yesterday and took 9 hours due to road closures, amazing to see some decent accumulations at near sea level, this was scotch corner last night, yet 40 miles south even with 1000ft + elevation... Zilch!

Was tempted to drive upto Moors today to get my snowfix but looking at Chopgate and Sutton Bank road cameras there is no lying snow! I'm guessing it must just be the most northern parts of moors that held the lying snow.

A decent F.I on this mornings 6z, shows that cold/snow is possible without major HLB. This I believe is the best possible outcome with the current strong PV.

Second weekend in a row I've seen falling and lying snow. Just goes to prove the saying "there's no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong location".
Fantastic end of Autumn for Scotland with 2 weekends running of snow falling to low levels at times and considerable snow for higher ground, this looks set to continue as we see a mix of PM/TM air alternating as we head into winter. Have enjoyed the reports and webcams from Scotland. Im staying in Northumberland for a week as of the 7th Dec and will be ready to take a drive upto Scotland for my snowfix if the opportunity arises.

Not as windy as predicted so a rather uninspiring day with light rain mostly odd moderate burst during the afternoon.
A nice ground frost this morning after a low of 1.5c but currently 5c and lashing it down, a day for staying at home with the fire on I reckon. The model output is currently not for the feint hearted if you like snow

Nah, what we need is this.
Apparently this photo will be used in the Netweather winter forecast for Jan 16

Is this deep enough???
Yeh thats looks nice and deep only problem is the deepest snow alot of the time is frontal snow so chances are the next will be mild sw'erly so still not pleased
-
I won't be happy until I get scenes like this!! It's in Lapland, Netweather members holiday?
Hmm doesn't look deep enough to me, and also I can see no further showers on the horizon... roll on next winter!

Moderate snow with all surfaces starting to get covered here, looks like the moors is getting plastered, heading up there soon.
-
That will be Whitby potentially cut off then for the first time this year if it continues, good ol' Moors mini climate, miss that place down here.
Warm sector incoming so will turn to rain across the moors in the next hour but snow showers will be imminent dawn onwards, already 4c at Fylingdales now whereas sutton bank is 0c

I've got family in the NYM, you can see Sutton Bank and Blue Bank here: http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/article/24608/Road-cameras-and-weather-conditions
Yep whiteout blizzard conditions up there, decided not to head up there tonight due to work in the morning and also how dangerous it could be.
-
Light to moderate snow falling here but not settling currently, absolute white out across western parts of the NYM currently, sutton bank looks very dangerous!

Yes mate finish work at 12 and then heading to Dalby Forest for a walk and for a drive out on the forest roads to test the new winter tires on the Audi, will take some pictures and dashcam will be on when driving.Cool, thanks, we shall see lol! Ill be up waiting and watching anyway hehe
Are you still planning to take a drive out up to the NYM? Should be good there with the showers tomorrow. Hope you see some snow mate, dont forget your camera

What time is the main band due? Not sure where I can view short range high res models. Is it the stuff currently over Scotland thats due to develop and push south?
Meto predictive charts show 3am onwards, looking good for you mate for a covering.
-
Looks like tonight will be a bit of a none event for my neck of the woods, possibly even rain for the hills aswell closer to the coast due to the warm sector, if the band can push further inland then I suspect snow could fall in the pennines and dales away from any sea modification. However uppers will fall as the morning progresses and convective showers will affect eastern areas and turn readily to snow even to low levels, should be some decent accumulations in the heavier showers especially in the moors and wolds. Showers will gradually be confined to coastal areas as the day progresses. Here is the met offices take on my location tomorrow and also a few charts from the latest NMM

So precip looks to of increased tomorrow night and into saturday, only problem with that is we now have a pesky warm sector affecting eastern areas, this will soon clear South dragging colder uppers from the North so showers will turn readily to snow as they do. Although I'm expecting the snow level East of York to be around 200/300m overnight with sleet at lower levels, snow level will be lower further west but still unsure. Such a complex and changing setup but unfortunately its a downgrade for many in the east.

Did you have lightning tonight my mate who lives in rillington has posted some beauty lightning photos on facebook
Yes mate although we were driving back from York at the time so missed it The squall line associated with it was amazing a tree came down on the one of the back roads had to take a detour.
