  1. Hell it was much warmer than forecast today with a high of 25.7c after 1.4mm of overnight rain. T'was a bit warm setting up for Egton show near Whitby this afternoon, back up tomorrow afternoon to pack up and looks like I might need a coat!
  2. I was in Kettleness not far from Whitby this morning, fairly dry up that way too. Setting up for the Egton show tomorrow afternoon so hoping it stays dry, Wednesday is looking a bit soggy in places which may see some drought relief for eastern areas but not getting my hopes up!
  3. The rain looked heavy and threatening when it was west of York and then it just vanished, managed a measly 0.8mm. Must admit though here in eastern North Yorkshire we haven't done to bad for rain after 53mm in July and 16mm so far this month, yet I was working near Beverley today and couldn't believe the difference of only 20 miles or so. Even a few miles away at Wetwang just across the border into East Yorkshire the village pond has completely dried up and the grass looks fried.
  4. The rain lost most of its intensity by time it arrived here shortly after midnight, managed a whopping 0.2mm.
  5. Fresh start to Saturday with a low of 7.2c here overnight. Some spots locally in North Yorkshire down to 2/3c so certainly a noticeable chill for early August. Cloudy start but the cloud is starting to break and its warming up nicely, 15.5c.
  6. Soggy morning out there! Just my luck as I've got a market stall with the wife in Driffield today as part of Yorkshire Day celebrations. Does look like it'll clear up bi mid morning but set up is looking a bit damp!
  7. Wettest day of the year here with 16.4mm recorded since midnight. Wasn't forecast whatsoever so a nice surprise as its the first recorded rain in 23 days.
  8. Ended up having one of these which I hadn’t had before. It was the first pint of the day so a few sips and it was gone.
  9. Went to Flamborough South Landing for a swim this evening but it was 21c on the beach with a chilly howling gale off the sea, annoying id forgotten my jacket as it was 38c at home when i set off. Ended up heading inland to Rudston a few miles from Bridlington for a pint where it was a pleasant 27c inland. Road between Sledmere and Duggleby had partially melted and was covered in potholes from where it had been torn up. Back ome now and its 25c and 27c in the bedroom, gonna be a tough night with 10 week year ord daughter.
  10. Morning all, Currently 33.7c here at 10.49am, yesterdays high was 35.6c so expecting to surpass that by some margin.
  11. Still 27.3c here at 20.39pm. The only record to be broken in North Yorkshire today is RAF Fylingdales high up on North York Moors near Goathland. A high of 31.6c was recorded here beating the previous record of 31.4c set in August 1990. All records set to go tomorrow, by how much will be the interesting part.
  12. It even happens with my Davis VP2 which has a much bigger shield. When the sun is high in sky the station is designed to protect the shield from direct sunlight but when its low there's not much you can do if you don't have a fan assisted radiation shield.
  13. Did you get some late evening sun shining horizontally onto the screen? I use to find with my VUE it would overread early morning and late evening as the shield was less protected by direct sunlight. Dropping here now but only very slowly 31.6c.
  14. According to Paul Hudson, the all time Yorkshire record is 36.0c in Wakefield. Wonder if this will be broken today? My station has just hit 33.2c making it the highest temperature reading I have recorded since 2011.
  15. Had a nice swim at Flamborough this morning at 9am followed by lunch at Bempton. Bempton was 26c when I left and temp hit 32.5c on car near Sledmere heading home over Wolds. Currently 32.2c here, only 1.0c off my record now so that should go in next couple of hours.
  16. By eck it was a warm one today. Max of 31.2c here this afternoon making it the hottest day of the year and the 2nd hottest day I've recorded since 2016. Escaped to Flamborough to get a sea breeze and we actually came off the beach at 13.30pm as wife got a bit grumpy with how cold it was. Amazing watching the car thermometer rise as we headed back to Malton 30 miles inland. Still 23.6c at 21.50 and its mad to think we about to have 2 more hotter days.
  17. That just passed here. Mix of rain, sleet and wet snow with a marked increase in wind speed as it passed.
  18. River Ouse in York takes around 24 hours to react to rainfall amounts falling in The Dales. This time tomorrow I imagine it will of risen drastically.
  19. Indeed last January we seemed to have good Synoptics but poor 850hpa temps and then this year we seem to have the very cold air nearby but can’t get the pressure pattern to tap into it.
