  1. Yes I set up the weather station with her last July. It’s a very unique location as it’s a frost hollow at 385m, my highest frost hollow station. I’m looking at working with her hopefully this summer with setting up a station with her much higher on her land. She has 2000 acres with land that goes up to 560m asl but very tricky setting one up in such a remote area with no phone signal.
  2. This morning was the 3rd time this winter parts of North Yorkshire have fallen into minus double digits. Coldest temps below: Many places then experienced an ice day with Litton not getting above -3c all day. Coldest maximum temps below. Meanwhile I was working on the North York Moors today which was truly stunning, deep snow, blue skies and sub zero temperatures. With more snow forecast in that area tomorrow this is no doubt the snowiest winter across upland North Yorkshire for many years.
  3. Brief covering this morning but it’s been rain sleet for the last 9 hours which is a shame. Only 100m higher it’s falling as snow, certainly a winter where being inland has had its benefits. Hills of North Yorkshire have certainly had one of the snowiest winters so far for many years.
  4. Very fine margins. Firby is 5 miles south of my work and ever so slightly higher yet my covering has gone and looking at my CCTV it’s raining.
  5. Just woken up and it’s white over outside. A very slight covering of wet snow, bodes well for the rest of ya as I’m only 53m asl.
  6. I’m currently sat in my lorry on the North York Moors. Trust me they do not need any more snow haha. Chop Gate, the village I’m in now had 35cm (14 inches) of level snow last Friday and it’s only 170m asl. Maybe they should share some with the rest of us.
  7. I think the mention of snow cover is more aimed at those who still have snow from then last week or so. I was on the North York Moors today and above 350m there was still 100% cover.
  8. Yes whilst here we haven't seen anything significant since the BFTE we have had the odd covering here and there. Not far from me though places like York, Selby and Hull there will be young kids that have never seen snow. Our slight covering is starting to disappear now.
  9. Lets hope we see a county wide snowfall event next time round. End of January please with no marginality!
  10. About 2 miles past the Rievaulx turning on your right is where you park. Then there's various bridleways/footpaths that lead off onto Rievaulx Moor, where you park the car is around 280m asl then the footpaths lead upto around 330m on Rievaulx Moor.
  11. A Foresty England site called Newgate Bank. Around 5 miles north of Helmsley towards Stokesley on the B1257.
  12. This "cold" spell has been exceptional for those in the North of the county with elevation. Some places have seen snow falling everyday so far in 2021 bar today with temps dropping as low at -12c on a couple of occasions. Some places have also seen up to a foot of snow and one of the highest single daily total snowfall in many years. For those with a low elevation its been quite frustrating with the snowline being above my head on many occasions. If you live in Harrogate then its a cold spell to remember. If you live in Hull you haven't seen snow for 3 years....
  13. Around 50cm has fallen across the highest parts of the North York Moors yesterday. Went for a walk this morning at Newgate Bank. Around 30cm of fresh powdery snow underfoot and quite difficult to walk through.
  14. Currently in Kirkbymoorside and it’s heavy wet snow which is leaving a slushy mess. Higher parts of North York Moors getting pummelled.
  15. Not expecting anything here being low lying and 25 miles from the coast. It was however the coldest night across North Yorkshire since February 2019 with Ravenseat in Swaledale just nudging -12c shortly after midnight.
  16. A light sugar coating of wintry precipitation this morning. Meanwhile the Moors/Wolds above 200m continues to see accumulating snow. Trouble on both Garrowby Hill and Sutton Bank this morning it would seem. The North York Moors above 300 metres has seen snow on the ground since Xmas Eve now which is nearly 2 weeks. Elevation really has been a key factor in this “cold” spell.
  17. Temperature now ideal for snow at 0.6c with -0.1c dew but sods law shower has just passed the south of Malton over the Wolds. Plenty more out to sea so there's still a chance.
