  5. Hi, MeteoMadrid. Nice to hear from you again. We've talked about this before: is this snowfall on the Serra de Tramuntana? Is it near the monastery at Lluc? Puig Major or Puig de Massanella? Wherever it is, the photographs are wonderful. Many thanks, my friend. Best wishes, Mike. Hola, MeteoMadrid.
  6. Some good points there, Ossie and well made. Folks might find this interesting...... http://www.answers.com/topic/gregorian-cal...initiator=FFANS Hope this is useful. Kind regards, Mike.
  7. An excellent forecast - many thanks to all. Just a small question from my small, thin head!! When it says, '.....an upward trend in temperatures is expected in January with temperatures still close to average but generally slightly above the norm...', does that refer to the temperatures from the late 70's to now or do they refer to records going back further? Any replies gratefully received. Kind regards, Meteorologically muddled Mike.
  8. Yes, it looks promising. I think (and hope!) we are in for an interesting time towards the end of this month. Regards, Mike.
  9. It seems like we have zero snow days here in Birmingham . But I'm not complaing - Roger J. Smith and others seem optimistic for this winter. Wherever you are, I hope you have a snowy season my friends. Every best wish, (See you in Madrid sometime?) Mike. Mike.
  10. Too true, MeteoMadrid! Especially the Cava and the beer! But Pollensa and Lluc are beautiful and quiet places in the north of the island, as is Soller in the south. That's where we are going next Easter. We hope that Puig Major still has snow on it! We love Spain and we love the Spanish people and we can't wait to get there to see the beautiful weather and the extraordinary wildlife - especially the vultures in the mountains near Lluc monastery. Until next time, All best wishes, Mike.
  11. That's better than in England! I'm moving to Spain! All good wishes, Mike. Eso es mejor que en Inglaterra! Estoy moviendo a España! Todos los buenos deseos, Mike. P.S. Mallorca is a beautiful island: my spiritual home. Kind regards, Mike. P.S. Saludos cordiales, Mike.
  12. I've seen snow on the Tramuntana mountains in Mallorca in January. It's quite beautiful and rather unusual. Here's a picture I've found taken from Santa Maria in December. Puig Major is the tallest peak - it's the one near the church tower. Recuerdos, Mike. True, Yeti but rarely in Madrid, which is a pity when I go there for winter breaks. Still, you can't have everything! Regards, Mike. Recuerdos, Mike.
  13. Hi, Meteo Madrid. I knew that you frequently got snow in your part of the world, but are these snowfall amounts in any way unusual? Excellent pictures. What camera do you use? Kind Regards, Mike. Hola, Meteo Madrid. Saludos cordiales, Mike
  14. Many thanks for that concise answer Jethro. It still seems to be a little 'grey' area and well worth keeping an eye on. Kind regards, Mike.
  15. And to you too, Ringo! Here's an interesting article from the BBC:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7682836.stm ' "These are some of the largest cloud systems in the world and we know that they must play a very significant role in climate change, yet we know that climate models do not represent them very well," he [Hugh Coe] explained.' (my italics) I find it interesting that this has not been (apparently) sufficiently factored into climate models. Am I reading too much into this sentence? If I am, I can only apologise. Kind regards, Mike.
  16. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. Have you seen the new BBC Online Beta weather forecast? http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/ Any thoughts etc? Kind regards, Mike.
  17. Hear, hear!! Well said, Kippure - I'll look forward to that! (...and yours, too, Captain Peacock) Regards, Mike.
  18. Overcast here - 14.5 C, SW wind, 5m.p.h. Not terribly nice today. Regards, Mike
  19. Thanks, Mr. Data. As you say, let's hope it's clear - my son will want to see it. Regards, Mike.
  20. Overcast here with a temperature of 17C. Wind is westerly, 1022mb. Nice, though! Regards, Mike.
  21. 22.9C here - lovely! WSW wind about 7mph. Regards, Mike.
  22. .....and education! Regards, Mike. Edit: It's also incredibly expensive.
  23. A good point. It has been alleged, by Meades amongst others, that when Ralph Vaughn Williams was collecting folk-songs in Sussex and Norfolk at the beginning of the last century, word got around that he would buy the singers a drink or two. Hence, there were many inventive singers of non-existant songs all too willing to add to Williams' collection! Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear, as my dad used to say. Regards, Mike.
  24. It's uncanny, hannegan - we're both on the same number of posts (601)!!!!! It must be a sign! * Regards, Mike. * In my case, it's a sign of mediocrity!
