  4. Welcome to Netweather, dewie. I'm over in Selly Park and, to judge by the radar, we'll have a reasonable amount tonight, Regards, Mike.
  5. I believe that the radar is sett up to detect rain - other types of precipitation can confuse it or simply don't show up. During the heavy snow here earlier on today, the METO radar showed clear skies. It's a funny old world! Regards, Mike.
  6. Hi. It could go either way, but I'm quietly optimistic. Try these radar links - they seem to show the centre of the low moving further north than anticipated, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part. Kind regards, Mike. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ http://www.meteox.co...oom&x=195&y=198 http://www.sat24.com/gb http://www.metoffice...ather/uk/radar/
  7. A good point. The Met Office are simply hedging their bets, in my opinion. Personally, I feel optimistic about the chances of a fair covering this week. Posters on other threads were saying (in the past few days) that because of the direction and origins of the front it was unlikely to be productive due to a dry airflow. All that has now changed and a strange silence descends! If we were to get nothing from this, then my faith in the fax charts will be destroyed. Regards and happy snow hunting, Mike.
  8. Thanks for that post, Serendipity. I'm struggling to see why the front on Tuesday night into Wednesday will be marginal for the Midlands. There are clearly subtleties here that I'm blissfully unaware of. They're probably glaringly obvious too, but I'm noted for my lack of understanding! Regards, Mike.
  9. Hi, VP. Do you really think those fronts will be unproductive? I tend to agree with you, but I'm a hopeless optimist and am thus almost always disappointed. Regards, Mike.
  10. Hi, Rock Squad and welcome to Netweather.. Have a squint at the fax charts - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday seem particularly promising. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=charts;type=fax;sess= Regards, Mike.
  11. Looking at the next few days, the UKMO seem pretty certain that most of the U.K. will see some difficult conditions. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=charts;type=fax;sess= The 60 / 72 hour charts seem particularly portentous! Happy New Year to you all, Regards, Mike.
  12. Hi, Pete. If I may be bold and reply to that question - the winter you have in mind was '41 - '42. The Nazis didn't invade until June 41. For a really good read on the subject, 'Stalingrad' by Anthony Beevor is perhaps the definitive work on that particularly horrific period. Every best wish for the New Yeaar. Kind regards, Mike. P.S. Just spotted Mr. Data's reply - apologies. May I also add many thanks, Mr. Data, for such an interesting post.
  13. Pessimisim rules tonight (or, toonoight as my Dudley bass player would say!) All eyes on the next few hours and days. It'll be fine, I promise. Kind regards, Mike. P.S. Dear Santa- I want a U.S.A. Fender Telecaster with Seymour Duncan pickups for Christmas.......better than sex (through a Twin Reverb, of course!!!!)
  14. Keep the faith and watch the Cheshire gap! Kind regards, Mike. P.S. It's worth remembering that we would have killed for this in Christmas seasons past!
  15. Watch this radar (if the link works!). Regards, Mike. http://www.meteox.com/gmapstatic.aspx?zoom=6&type=zoom&x=201&y=187
  16. Stay positive and keep an eye on the Cheshire gap tomorrow. An interesting night (and Sunday!) await us all. Kind regards, Mike.
  17. Keep an eye on the Cheshire gap tomorrow, chaps. Looks very promising. Kind regards, Mike.
  18. Welcome to NW , Rosemary. It's a whiteout here too! Excellent! Regards, Mike.
  19. Well said. The charts are very promising, especially for this early in the season. Regards, Mike.
  20. Agreed, Happy days. Here's the link again....... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html All to play for. Regards, Mike.
  21. UKMO have updated early and what they say looks interesting....... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html Regards, Mike
  22. Thanks, Dogs. You're right - the next few days hold something potent. Here's hoping! Mike.
  23. Hi, Dogs. Haven't been on here for a while - apologies. This from the UKMO a couple of minutes ago: Sunny intervals with a cold north-easterly wind in Scotland, Northern Ireland and South-east England. Elsewhere cloudy, cold, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, possibly snow in eastern and central England. Updated: 1112 on Mon 14 Dec 2009 Looks good! Regards, Mike.
  24. Definitely not, William, although this article raises a few interesting points........ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8151499.stm Rationally yours, Kind regards, Mike.
