  1. Some wonderful home movies! Billericay, 1962/63: Walsall 1962: The Moors:
  2. Morning all!!! My head hurts and I haven't even had a drink Must be the stratosphere doing it.......
  3. Thank you for that Dawn, I'll leave it as a wet wasteland for now.
  4. Ewww nice, do you mind standing on this mat while you post then please, you're making a terrible mess on the wood flooring?!
  5. There is a tortoise out there somewhere that has decided to use the garden for hibernating. I hope it went to sleep with a snorkel in it's mouth....
  6. Thanks for that; it's a swimming pool I wasn't expecting at the moment. Pity it's not heated and surrounded in Italian marble
  7. What about clay Dawn, my garden could make grey plates and pots for everyone? (when it's not under 3" of water!)
  8. Comparisons between 2010 and 1963 here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8446942.stm
  9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Yorkshiremen_sketch
  10. But the trains still got through..... and road vehicles (with some help!) Amateur home movie:
  11. Just an idea of what it was like for those of us too young to remember!!! Here are links to a few news reels from the old British Pathe News for 1963: http://www.britishpa...ter freeze 1963 http://www.britishpa...ter freeze 1963 http://www.britishpa...ter freeze 1963
  12. I guess everyone would work from home on laptops! I'm not sure how many kids have access to the web (a very high percentage) but with a suitable VOIP type phone + cam and maybe portal connection, a lot of people don't need to travel anyway these days?
  13. Got that here too MKSA, but it's not hanging around for long:
  14. HNY hbl!!!! A brief respite for a week or so gives us dryer, mild but drab conditions. You gotta take the rough with the smooth I guess?!
  15. Seems like the proverbial 'drop in the ocean' ??? http://www.southwestbusiness.co.uk/news/02012013083138-council-to-use--1m-to-tackle-flooding-issues-/
  16. I think the problem would be that we haven't really had an event like '63 in many people's living memory and they may not be as prepared as they would like to think. Although as you say, the equipment to deal with snow and freezing condition's exists, I guess modern financial considerations and Health+ Safety legislation would strangle our ability to meet the onslaught of a 'Great Winter' such as 1963 now. http://forum.netweat...r/page__st__100
  17. Apart from a bit of drizzle this afternoon and possibly on the 5th, I can't see anything more exciting than the odd spot of rain around the 8th and maybe some fog on the 9th overnight: Like our part of the world, dull and mild by day for the foreseeable.
  18. Frozen sea here too in '63, Southend: Great Yarmouth: Poole Harbour: The Thames at Windsor:
  19. More shots of Kent when the sea froze. This one is Whitstable in '63: Herne Bay: Margate Jetty:
  20. I'm normally too dubious (scared?) to look beyond that anyway, but in that particular time-frame I can't see anything currently that points to something colder. I'm taking each week as it comes and with relatively dry conditions promised for the next 6/7 days I'll take that to start 2013 please. My punt is still for early/mid February - no science, no knowledge, no skill - just a hunch!
  21. Around here it would be compulsory! It gets us every time eh AH?
  22. Sounds to me like a lot of the usual 'hedging of bets', but in a more technical stylie!! (I've still got my fingers crossed you will notice)
  23. Found a great local (to me) site from John Flude who recalls all that went on in that cold Winter of 1962/63: http://www.jflude.co...task=view&id=70 Some pictures and charts reproduced from his website: This is the seafront on 29/12/62: Here's my picture at a similar point, but looking down Terminus Road on 6/04/08: https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/9969-terminus-road-eastbourne/ There was a slight thaw on 05/01/63: Here's an extract from John's weather diary regarding snow conditions in Eastbourne December 1962 - March 1963
